WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS!!!
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT to launch your boat using these techniques. This is NOT an instructional video on how to launch a boat. This is simply a video documenting our fishing trip, and how I chose to launch my boat on that particular day. This type of boat launching is inherently dangerous to people and property. As always, consult an expert before attempting a difficult launch, and LAUNCH AT YOUR OWN RISK!
THANK YOU ALL for checking out this video and I so appreciate all the positive comments and new subscribers to my channel! Fishing is a major passion of mine and I'm excited to bring some of my adventures to you. Enjoy and be safe!!
Video description:
A crowded boat launch forced us to head upstream to a nasty launch where very few boats are able to go. Its a launch few people attempt, but the reward was having the upper stretch of a beautiful river all to ourselves. Down river, a downed tree tried to spoil our plans but we were able to overcome that obstacle as well. This year the steelhead returns have been brutal, but we were able to find a chromer in the midst of a nasty downpour. Hope you enjoy the adventure as much as we did!

This was amazing man. What a beautiful river. I'm a complete novice to flyfishing and boats of the sort. I saw you retrieving the rope from the center once you were trying to maneuver after the fish bit. I assume that works as a sort of anchor, I was just curious about how that actually functions. Great video, I clicked subscribe, like the guy at the top said anyone with the balls and know-how to launch a boat down a 150ft hill deserves that for sure!

That was a sweet tutorial on how to launch a drift boat off of a cliff! I have tossed my boat countless times down that very same launch and also claim the most crashes into the tree that sits just to the right of the slide, notice why theres a patch of moss missing about rear anchor height. I double wrap my rope around the trailer say a hail mary and shove it off the cliff with two of us gloved up on the rope. Your system looks way smarter, what brand is that belay brake?
@flyfishhunter
@flyfishhunter 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! It's definitely not a tutorial but that's how I do it. I lost a boat on another launch about 10 years ago double wrapping. That's how I came up with this solution. Be careful my friend and consult an expert first! It's a Black Diamond ATC device made for rock climbing....not for boat launching lol! Hope to see you in the next one!

New to the channel and during that opening clip, I couldn't stop thinking how this looks like the Tillamook Forest. Then I watched. Nice! There's a few other spots I'd like to watch you drop into the Wilson.

My Lord. Only other person I have ever seen wrap line like me. Tried teaching a few guys, always looped and twisted it. Mine was cable not rope. You rock. I am more amazed at the wrapping then throwing a boat down a steep bank. Too cool. Lol

Terrific video. Thanks. Good rope work. Enjoyed that. You're basic bowline is of course the absolute best way to tie one. I found a KZbin video teaching it and studied and practiced it until it was part of my DNA. It's automatic, can do it eyes closed, even one handed. I've been with a several sailors more experienced than me, and after 'the bunny goes into the hole..." two or three times. I just reach in and crank it. The upgraded bowline is new to me. I'll work on that one too. Couple of tips for people still struggling with their knots. I had to practice them at home, during watches, over and over. Run through them every now and then. What I discovered after 7500 nMiles of sailing: My rolling hitch was hesitant and my cleat hitch wasn't smooth. So learning on the job isn't as effective as deliberate practice. I hadn't practiced those two outside of using them. So get a plastic cleat and a piece of dowel rod or another rope. Start out doing them over and over and over. Do them again the next day until you're smooth, then wait a few days, then a week. But always try to practice them every month or so. (I used to be not very good. I could tie lumber to the roof but there were too many granny knots. If you ever get kidnapped, hope it's by a sailor, their knots are easy to undo. If it's grannies? It's your teeth or pay the ransom.) Your over the shoulder wrap is really clear and easy to follow. There are a lot of KZbin videos that want to teach but they rush key steps, don't pause at key moments. And watch out for right and left handed instructors. That can be a problem. And never just find one video, find ten and pick the best ones. And I used to think catch and release was kind of wrong. Don't bother the fish unless you intend to eat it. But on that same trip trolling a hand line, big eyed lure at the end. The last couple of hundred miles out of Japan there just weren't any fish near the surface. The sea birds, like the whales some times do, were using us a marker, flying in big loops. There were smarter and dumber birds. The less intelligent birds would land near the lure to check it out, the smarter ones never did -- but they all loved zooming over it and giving it the eye. They all knew it was fake as do dolphins and sea lions, but they still liked the practice or play. So clearly your (terrific) fish was also having a good time. Less 'annoying the critter' and more symbiotic fun. Everybody eventually figures out that the laser pointer isn't fooling a cat or dog. It only takes holding it on one spot and then noticing your pet looks up at you. I really enjoyed this.
