Why uneven torque in 2s?
@amitparkar706

In a 2-stroke diesel engine, uneven torque can occur due to several factors inherent to the engine's design and operating principles. Some of the key reasons for uneven torque in 2-stroke diesel engines are as follows: 1. Firing frequency: Unlike 4-stroke engines that fire once every two revolutions of the crankshaft, 2-stroke diesel engines fire once every revolution. This high firing frequency can result in uneven torque generation as the power strokes are closer together in time. 2. Cylinder charging and scavenging: 2-stroke diesel engines rely on the scavenging process to clear out the exhaust gases and introduce fresh air into the cylinder. The scavenging process is not as efficient as the intake and exhaust strokes in 4-stroke engines. This uneven distribution of air-fuel mixture can lead to varying levels of combustion in each cylinder, resulting in uneven torque output. 3. Unbalanced forces: The design of 2-stroke diesel engines often leads to unbalanced forces during the combustion process. The rapid pressure rise during combustion can create uneven forces on the crankshaft, causing variations in torque output. 4. Poor cylinder-to-cylinder compression balance: It is challenging to achieve perfect compression balance between the cylinders in a 2-stroke diesel engine. Variations in compression pressure can lead to differences in torque produced by each cylinder. 5. Ignition timing issues: In some 2-stroke diesel engines, the timing of fuel injection and ignition may not be precisely controlled for each cylinder. This can result in variations in the combustion process and subsequently uneven torque production. 6. Varying load conditions: 2-stroke diesel engines are commonly used in marine and certain industrial applications, where the load can vary significantly. This fluctuating load can lead to uneven torque generation as the engine struggles to maintain a stable power output across varying operating conditions. While modern engineering and control systems have improved the performance and reduced the uneven torque issue in 2-stroke diesel engines to some extent, it remains a challenging aspect of their design. As a result, 2-stroke diesel engines are generally not preferred for applications that demand precise and consistent torque output. Instead, 4-stroke diesel engines are often used in those applications due to their inherently smoother torque delivery.
