Thank You Dave.The Greater Boston Race Club 32 races brand within brand aka Single Platform Racing. It keeps the racing close and the expense down.

I've had some success where I race with organising themes in time with real events, GP, Le Man's, Bathurst. I'm toying with a Drift Driving theme idea...

The closest racing we have is when we 'spec' the cars as close as possible. Same exact car, exact same tire, same exact motor, different livery... That said we have fun racing 'similiar' cars against each other as well. And if the cars are more than different, then well, IROC fits the bill.
@SlotCarNewsOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Us too Jon. We've found that the guys really like to race IROC classes of cars (different cars but all identically set up) and we just go and have fun running them around.

great idea's for classes I also run a minimum lap time class allows racers builders to dabble in modifications to make a car handle and drive better but keeps the motor /power at an even level .

Interesting topic expetially for begginners. For me I'm not very experienced just starting out. But for me it's not about what you can buy it's about what you can build. I'm more of a builder but I respect if somebody is tottaly fine with what they get out of a box. You can have the biggest fun of your life with a starter set. Just experiment and find your prefered class

Awesome info Dave. Just started a Carrera DTM Box Stock (PGT's only), and it's been fun! Amazed how the same E200 motors in the same cars can be so different though!
@SlotCarNewsOfficial3 жыл бұрын
there's at least 10% production variation in the motors. these are very typical for most slot car motors.

Sorry I'm late to this but surely with things like ARC you can make any 2 cars relatively equal no?

In keeping with the theme of racing without magnets does anyone offer a hard compound tire?
@73land13 жыл бұрын
Starting to view more of your vids ,, great insights … I toyed with handicap racing ,, though I’m only 2 lanes & with a Carrera timer… Regardless of power or handling,,,,, 10 lap qualifyer,,, no sand bagging !!! fastest car - “best lap time” x race distance.. eg. 50 laps,,, (divided by) other car’s “best lap time” = competing laps/distance …. Sandbagging is noticeable at end which incurs sledging.

Shame no timing programs offer handicap racing.

God video. Are you racing in your club without magnets? And in what State are you located at, if I may ask?
@SlotCarNewsOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hello Christian, yes we race without magnets. The group I race with is in the Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania area, which is pretty much were Oscar Koveleski was from.

@@SlotCarNewsOfficial thanks for your fast reply. I’m from the Cleveland, Ohio area, looking for a slot car club. I follow Slotblog.de religiously. In Germany, you can find Carrera slot car clubs all over. That by the way is where I’m from.

@@christianhary7733 very cool. So I've been to Germany quite a few times for Toy Fair in Nurnburg. And I've raced with the Slot Connection club there a few times. I have really enjoyed the time I've spent there and I found that racers are the same all over the world... I've been to Spain, England, Germany, Canada and of course all over the US... racers are the SAME, they just speak different languages!

that's why I use the word "slotbrothers" because we're all so similar when it comes to our likes and dislikes when it comes to racing.

@@SlotCarNewsOfficial my parents still live in Germany. Hopefully if the travel ban will be gone, I’m planning to go see them This year. My plan is to drive to Nuremberg and see Roland Preuss and his shop along with the slot connection. Can’t wait. I also the guys from Cincyslots, they’re about 5 hours away from my house. There 5 hour turkey race every year is the thing, can’t wait for their video to come out.

What causes the biggest difference between cars from the same manufacture and “class”? Weight? Orientation of the motor?
@eugene4154 Жыл бұрын
If you talking about stock units out the box type no mods done, then there are several points, from the front Braid cleanliness, electrical connections of braids, guide pin thickness and length along with freedom of movement Front tyres rolling or off the track, axle bushing and axle free spinning Assume motors to be "same" the quality of magnets affects its performance, the motor bushings and most important is the cleanliness of the commutator and brush seating on it, these things are mass produced and can vary by 10%. Only way is to put car onto a speed determination, and run at full throttle, Rear tyres on every brand I have are just no good for purpose, they differ from car to car age and shore hardness are major factors, the conditions of shipping, storage, affect them, we have no control on whether the car is 1 month old or 12 months Body weight is a big factor for handling and performance, a few manufacturers place huge emphasis on looks/details etc etc and fail to cover the needs of the consumer, SPEED, HANDLING, are our needs weight impacts heavily on this, cars can be top heavy even if you take out the "cockpit" pod, So you can see there is a lot that affects performance I have some entry level set cars "big brand" that are consistently faster around the same track than very expensive new flashy big brand cars (exclude the makers of mostly just cars to be fair.....) What is the reason these cars are faster, Our host on this vid said it in the beginning...WEIGHT, TYRES, THESE CHEAPY cars run 18k motors, but because they are free of driver pods and wings etc etc are very light and you can use most of the 18k motor rpm around most of the track, they accelerate way better too because of again the weight and great rear tyres with next to no front tyre contact, Indeed you just cannot expect different brands or even same brand different type of car to compete, You should aim to get high corner speeds from all your cars without deslotting or too much drift, remember drift is going sideways and that means it ain't going forward as fast as it could Car setup and best grade tyres are easy ways to get corner speed up Record you lap times of just the chassis, then do same with body fitted, compare handling if desolating of chassis only occurs best set it up right, the body on top will help a lot to de slot Have fun with what you have fella, our video host has covered all the above in his numerous vids and I am sure he dumps the factory tyres immediately on de-boxing and fits at least 30 shore urethane tyres (great for non competitive fun days at home)

If a club is using one brand, Scalextric then SCX and Super Slot should be ok?
@SlotCarNewsOfficial3 жыл бұрын
If you stay within a brand it would usually be fine. So race any brand against itself rather than race a Scalextric against a Carrera etc...
@danydevil60523 жыл бұрын
IMHO all clubs should develop and rule a BOP system, that allows them to mix brands, within a same class, that would make the races more interesting. Also 3dp has changed the game, most old Racers dont want to race with /against 3dp chasis equiped cars, again IMHO racing within a single brand makes builders/Racers lazy, then everybody ends racing for example Nsr Moslers (as they are low, Wide and fast Gt cars, that easily outrace almost every other car). The BOP system would allow a great variety in the grids, but it requieres lots of time and development from the most experienced and fastest guys.

What is BOP?
@danydevil60523 жыл бұрын
@@swedecarlson9292 Balance of performance, in WEC series and other endurance series, FIA looks for balance between cars when one of them is way ahead, either by adding weight, removing gas capacity, and so, that makes everyone race in fair conditions.
