More people should watch older anime in general. It seems that most anime fans today don't watch anything from the 20th century and if they do, nothing beyond the 90s. Of course there are good modern anime but people are missing out on great stuff from the past.

I couldn't agree more. As long as people are interested, I would like to continue to include some older anime reviews. 😁

If you want another Yoshiyuki Tomino series that gives you terminal tonal shock, you should check out Zambot 3. It wears the veneer of a traditional Giant Super Robot show, but is really about brainwashed child soldiers fighting against alien invaders who think you need a minimum of 10 war crimes a day.
@TheGamingHarbinger2 жыл бұрын
That is a great recommendation! It sounds like something I would enjoy. 😄

Regarding the various death scenes, it shows death can happen with absolutely no build up, over in an instant, and especially indiscriminate.

On the language barrier. I think the character said "the ide is allowing them to understand us" or something along those lines

you should watch Dunbine, it's "Kill em' all tomino" V2 it's actually the very first isekai anime, but it made a lot of "deviations" from the tropes that we know today about the isekai genre
@TheGamingHarbinger Жыл бұрын
I will definitely look into this one further. Thank you for the recommendation! 👌🏽
@frankjaeger2565 Жыл бұрын
Dunbine was indeed influencial but it was also kinda bad. Victory Gundam is a way better "kill 'em all" Tomino show. And of course Zambot 3

I stumbled upon Ideon after watching Gundam IBO with what happens in that series most people compared it to "kill em all Tomino" and I had no idea what they were referring to, so I did some research.
@TheGamingHarbinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he definitely has a thing for killing off his characters. 😆 Sometime this year I would like to talk about Zambot 3...another really old Tomino property. Eventually I would like to cover the original Mobile Suit Gundam as well. I feel like I am being pulled into his earlier works. 🤣
@WorthlessWinner2 жыл бұрын
Just finished the show. You seen the compilation movie? I think it explains things a lot better than the series while cutting the filler. I found it through the gif of the slap fight.
@TheGamingHarbinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have seen Contact and Be Invoked. 😀 I would say it serves its purpose especially due to Space Runaway having moments of repetition. With that being said...I really enjoyed the series the way it was. I really wonder what the result would have been had Tomino been able to do the series the way he wanted. The series had such an abrupt ending. 😕

1:26 can confirm they are still slapping up to this day with no sign of stopping 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Indeed. I love how they slap the other person and then act surprised they got slapped back. 🤣🤣🤣

7:44 I have watched Most of Ideon and I THINK the gif he's talking about may actually be from the Ideon movies. Contact and Be Invoked. Contact is a summary of the 39 eps with some added footage and Be Invoked is (to my knowledge) the missing final episodes compiled into a movie.
@TheGamingHarbinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the gif is taken from the movie Be Invoked. I also made a separate video for that movie. I did do it differently than this one....so it has a ton of spoilers, but was very fun to make. Be invoked is kind of a more detailed explanation of what happened in the last couple of episodes. There are some small details here and there that are altered (I.E. this character was killed in a different and more violent way).

24:00 I THINK that the buff have universal translators or at least I recall Karala (I think that's how you spell her name) using one in the first 2 eps. MAYBE she provided translators to the others so they could intercept buff communications (which they do multiple times in the course of the show)? To be fair the translators, I don't recall are ever brought up again.
@TheGamingHarbinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they referenced it at the beginning of the series. My only guess is that maybe since they mentioned the translators once, they felt like there was no need to bring up both parties not speaking the same language and now Karala has provided everyone on the ship (which is a tad unrealistic) with their own pair. But I understand this is a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things. I think the movie and the series is extremely fascinating. 🤔🧐

So what sort of other good psychological mecha anime are out there aside from Space Runaway ideon and Evangelion? I'm a huge sucker for psychological anime and I just started reading the manga for Evangelion

Rayearth, Raxephon, Fafner, Getter Robo(Armageddon or Manga), Gunbuster, Zambot 3,Mazinger Zero, Universal Century Gundam (It's a timeline), Martian Successor Nadesico, Big O, Vandread.

I think Genesic Kaiser's list is great. Some of these I have not seen in such a long time, it would be great to watch again. Zambot 3 is one I am looking forward to. That and Mobile Suit Gundam I plan to review in the future. I will probably do a couple of modern shows first, but I am really happy to get lots of feedback with the older anime. 😀 Not mecha anime, but Perfect Blue and Boogiepop Phantom are really good psychological thrillers.
