Just to apologize for the rather odd errors in some of the written paragraphs. For instance, "great day in November"" instead of "Grey day in November." I was tinkering with a voice to type programme which I then failed to proof read. Whoops!!!

The opening paragraph of Our Mutual Friend has to be my favourite of any of Dickens' work. So intriguing!

I love Daphne du Maurier's writing, but I didn't enjoy Jamaica Inn quite as much as some of her others. So far, my favorites have been Rebecca, My Cousin Rachel, and The Scapegoat. I really love her short stories, too. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on that one. Even though it's a classic, I don't hear many people talk about Lord of the Flies, but that's a great one! It's a great one for a book club discussion, too.

It's always a pleasure to hear you talk, I always learn new things from you. You've done some excellent book shopping, and I'm very interested in Proust's works. I didn't see your video about realism, I'll see it next, because it seemed very interesting, as I'm relatively new to the classics, I don't know much and I really like your objective and dynamic way in which you expose your ideas.

Hey Katerina 👋 sorry for my delayed response, things have been hectic. Always a joy to hear from you. Hope you enjoy the Realism video. As for Proust, I'm eager to get onto his work, but also trying to get the peace and quiet I need to meander through the first book. I know he's not a light read.😃👍

Great list. I haven't read any of them. The leopard is on my tbr list for many years and I don't know why I haven't read it yet, is an important classic in Italian literature. The name in Italian is Il Gattopardo. As you said well gatto means cat and pardo it could be the diminutive of leopardo which means leopard. By Dephine du Maurier I read Rebecca which is a retelling of Jane Eyre, My cousin Rachel and the King's General. My cousin Rachel is my favourite by her. Thanks for sharing 😊

*In Search of Lost Time* by Proust. Never heard of this book. How the heck did I miss it?? I did some research and learned that it is an alternate title for "Remembrance of Things Past". I started but did not complete it. Perhaps I'll get to it some day. And yes, it was a true classic. I have so many books to read! Third World classics, some USA classics ~ too much. Will never catch up.

Ooh, I like that cover of Lord of the Flies a lot - very striking! It's one I've reread in recent years, and the subtlety and symbolism in the writing really jumped out at me this time. Have you read any other Golding? I have a copy of The Inheritors I still haven't read yet... it's supposed to be about Neanderthals.😄

Planned to read Swann's Way last year. Got a third of the way through before, inevitably, being distracted by some other classic. Will read a couple pages tonight and see if I can get back into it. Bought The Coral Sea a while back in the hopes that it would spark a bit more interest for Lord of the Flies. Anywho, back to the mines...

I've heard that many read sections of Proust between another book. I suppose that's because it is pretty top heavy in the philosophising department, which doesn't render it a book to maintain long focus on.

Very nice video. As you were speaking of Swann's Way (which I read a few years back), I was reminded of a book you might like to read. It is titled Modernism by Michael Levenson. It is an extraordinary book that details what the Modernist movement was about, how it started and why it ended. I am in my seventies. I've read the classics and my share of postmodernist books. But, the world I am most comfortable with is that exemplified by the Modernist movement of literature. The book is amazing in how it explains the history of the movement, who were important writers in that style and the works that offer a great insight into Modernism and the world it portrays. I truly believe you would like this book and find it very worthwhile. It's available on Amazon.
