8:00 Twin to my 1958 Riley One Point Five. Surprised a number of my friends with its performance. Had the same twin cam engine in the MG A series. It's similar to a Morris Major, not Minor. Four cars had the same body and chassis. Really enjoyed the nostalgic trip. A teacher at my primary school had Jaguar Mk 5 and I once had ride in it but I was unconscious the entire time. I fainted in the classroom and was taken to hospital. When I found out how I got to the hospital I was really upset.

I’m an old life long garage mechanic, getting towards 80 now. I worked on many, many of these cars in the day, and owned quite a few. Working in a garage, I used to get the chance to buy them needing work done, do what was needed at home, and sell them on. It helped supplement my wages. How I wish I still had some of them! Especially the Magnette, Pathfinder, Sunbeam Supreme and Velox PA, all of which I kept for quite a while.

AH , when driving used to be a pleasures alas not these days., to many wannbe F1 drivers on the road. Going through this batch of photos I have over the years owned a Ford Consul Classic in maroon and grey, as the photo, a Mini I think it was a 1963 model, Also 2 Rover P6 a 2000 and a V8, 3500 which I loved,, Morris Minor 1000, MK 1 Cortina x 2, and a Humber Super Snipe 1963 a terrific machine. Cars from this list I used to lust after, the Jag Mk10 and 420G, Vanden Plas Princess 4L, PA Cresta such a sexy car back in the day. I have also always wanted a Jag MK9. I do enjoy seeing these photos, I know I will have owned other cars in other videos which I will check out in time. I have had to many cars over the years my first being a 1963 MG1100 in British Racing Green with a red interior.

Oh that red Humber Sceptre brings back some memories! I had a green one in the late 80's. No engine, no windows, mostly rust-free apart from the sills. 2 years of work to get it mobile and then sold it before I went any further and it probably wasn't too far from an MOT. Obviously I regret parting with it now, definitely one of the more stylish cars I've owned.

Only a handful of these got to the USA, so most are unfamiliar to me. There was always a small, elite market for Rolls Royces, Bentleys, and Jaguars. Then for a brief few years (about 1958 to 1962), a number of Americans got sick of the huge, gaudy domestic cars and shifted to imported compact cars. So we had Morris Minors, Hillman Minxes, and Vauxhall Victors, mostly, from Britain. Also Fords and Triumphs. And of course other European cars, of whom the Volkswagen Beetle was by far the most successful. This was also when the first Japanese cars were sold in the US, but those took a few years to get up to speed.

The Ford Consul 'Classic' was designated 315, not 415 as stated. I had a 1962 Classic in Goodwood Green - bought in 1964. After only a short while, it suffered from an out of balance crankshaft that destroyed the centre main bearings. This was due to the original engine fitted by Ford being a 1340cc three bearing crank which could easily be over-driven. The car was relatively heavy, so the engine was stressed. In 1963, for the 1964 year, Ford replaced the engine with a 1500cc five bearing crank. I did know about the new engine when I bought mine, but the second-hand 1963 car that was available at the time, was £100 too much for me ... I had to settle for second best, but I loved that car. The inward raked rear window idea was taken from the Lincoln Continental, it allowed an enormous boot lid opening. I could write a book about my home mechanic experiences with my Consul Classic.
@jamesweber49382 жыл бұрын
I had a 63 Ford Classic with the 1340 engine and replaced it with an engine from a Cortina GT. Then a friend put the 1340 in his Anglia. I also had a 55 Ford Pop that I bought in 71 for 20 quid ! AC 8299 My dads first car was an ex GPO Commer Van RDB 633.

Other than a Heinkel Bubble Car my first car was a 1962 Hillman Minx 111C 1600c in a two tone cream and green. I loved it! It was comfortable, quite, smooth, vibration free and predicable handling. My next was a 1965 Hillman Minx Mk 5 1600cc in Dark Green which had front disc brakes other than that similar to the 111C, but never thought the handling was quite so predictable. It was the only cars I ever owned where on tick over the old Imperial 12 sided three penny piece could be stood up on the top of the rocker box without falling over! Happy days!

A good selection, one minor criticism, the two tone MG Magnette was a ZB Varitone, not a ZA, the black 'ZB' was in fact a ZA, the distinguishing external feature of the ZA was the 'hockey stick' bright trim round the front wheel arch, the ZB had straight trim strips plus a bit more oomph under the bonnet.

A British Invasion of sensible small cars (and of course, popular VW of Germany) in late '50s prodded the US 'Big 3' - GM, Ford, Chrysler - to develop the Corvair, sales champ Falcon, and Valiant all for 1960.

You showed a photo of a Ford Anglia from about 1955, In 1965 my dad bought that same car with the same colour for 300 guilders. She had a nice red leather interior, the bottom was not in a very good condition and the engine appeared to be very bad. In first instance she drove well, I drove the car and eventually one by one a cylinder failed and fortunately I barely could pass a railway crossing on 1 cylinder. With the help of a friendly neighbour my dad bought another engine at the scrapyard and mounted the new engine, and as yet he used the car for several years.

The Consul Classic designation is "315" not 415. I think it was one of only times Ford included a number in a car's badging, The other was the Consul MK2, which ended its days as the Consul 375. Ford knew very well that the public identified heavily with the Consul name so the early Cortinas and the Classics and Corsairs were prefixed 'Consul'.

The car at 9.12 you briefly called a 'Morris 6'. I beg to differ with you regarding that denomination. I would be around nine years of age when one of these became by Dad's employer's latest cars - in black, as all his earlier big Morris cars had been. All had been used to pull a trailer carrying gravestones. Ironically, from 1942, and my then yet to be father aged 19, was the only ever driver of these cars because his aged employer was afraid of them. The one pictured was the last of the line circa 1952, and the first one I'd ever ridden in a motor car. It was excitement beyond belief as my Dad drove it at 60 mph along our Leeds ring road. As for the car's model denomination, and as it stated on its badge, it was a 'Morris Twenty One'.

The 107E had an over head valve engine, way too early for an over head camshaft engine The 100E was the original ancient side valve engine probably from the early 30's, unsure if the same engine was fitted to the earlier E93A or before.
