I fell in love with Jane years ago as a first name with my affection reading all of Jane Austen's novels and Jane Eyre. I named my daughter that this year. Though I'm American and many girls have Jane as a middle name, I've only known an older woman with that name. Every person I've mentioned it to says it's such a pretty name.

Oh there are loads of really unexpected nature and floral names that were popular during the Edwardian period! I was reading on this topic a few months back, I believe it was an article on the British baby names site, and was really charmed by the style of the period. Some of the registered names included Snowdrop Gladys, Clematis Mary Claire, Mignonette Ethel, Ivy Narcissus, Acacia Harriet, Claude Oak, Felix Ruby, Gladiolus Bernard, and Linden Fritz Barnabas. All born in the late 1800s through early 1900s.

Hi SJ, greetings from Slovakia. I'm fan of this channel for a while, but never posted a comment before. Not sure how I found it, but I'm been watching it over a year now. I've been searching for the given names and their meanings for years (even though I have no kinds) anytime I heard an interesting name, but I was surprised and delighted that someone has created such a great channel as you did and there's a new video every week ! ...I'm so happy I can finally see STELLA (officially spelled only with 1 L in my country) in the list, my all time favorite and so happy you spoke about it in a positive way. I remember it was mentioned in "girl names from century ago" (1921) video with no special comments, then it was mentioned in the video mentioning names that people hate and I was disappointed. Then I was disappointed again when it was not mentioned in the "Star, moon etc" list and now voila Stella is finally honored :-). I know it's often used as brand name, but I love it from the time when I read some 20 years ago that Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith decided to call their daughter Stella and I know a couple of other celebrities did as well. ... I hope to have a daughter one day and that Stella (which's becoming more popular in my country and I sometimes feel like "no, it's my name") would fit to her surname. Very small number of people in Slovakia has a middle name, but if I was a English speaker, I would go for Joy or June as a middle name. I like other names from this list as well, Annie is so cute and I always considered Naomi to be a very interesting name. ...If you ever do a video on Slavic names, more than happy to advise.

Thanks for the inspiration, SJ! I'm not having any children so I have to use my names somehow lol. Daphne was ultimately chosen not because of Bridgerton, but from the Greek myth, author Daphne DuMaurier, and Daphne Moon from the tv program Frasier hahaha. With so many old names as well as place names coming back into fashion I can't believe I haven't seen this one pop up on lists lately (but I am glad it is staying under the radar). We really love how nice the long form sounds, feminine but not super girly, and the huge variety of nicknames it provides.

Nice name. Lorraine was common in the 1950s.

I love this name too! I’m also so surprised that it hasn’t been coming up lately, but I’m glad it’s not! Definitely underrated for such a beautiful name

I've always loved Lorraine. Lauren seems to have come back like a train on fire (at least in the US) so Lorraine is a nice alternative. Congrats!!

Nancy seems like an old lady name to me, up there with Carol and Linda. From this list, my favorite is Bethany.

Please do a name list of geek/nerdy names. Sci-fi, fantasy, comic book, gaming, etc. Zelda Mary Jane Peach Laurel Thea Penny Bernadette But there are intimate amount of different names to choose from. I don't think you've done a list like this before.

Lovely! So many names I love were on this list! Lydia, Naomi, and Bethany are on the top of my beautiful names list! I knew several Erins so it seems quite common to me, but It’s true that there aren’t many babies being given that name currently. I know this is an old video, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Thanks for saying my name, Erin, correctly. Most people mispronounce and misspell my name and always have despite how simple it is. I've only ever met a couple of people with my name but just in passing.

Alison would be a great classic but rare name for a little girl. Only known about 3 women with that name but they spelled it differently.

When discussing Annie on this list you mention how Hannah could also be listed. I dont know what its like in the UK but here on the West Coast of Canada Hannah is a super common name. My mum gave it to me in the late 80s thinking it was vintage and familiar but uncommon. By 1995 it was in the top 20 for girls in the province of British Columbia and has remained in the top 20 all the way from '95 to last year. We will see if it stays for 2021 too. I like my name regardless but I do remember being 12 years old and having so many 5 year olds running around with the same name.

Named after my grandmother Margaret. My nickname as a child in the '60's was Margie and I chose Margo as an adult.

I’m Bethany Ann and I’ve always loved my name. It’s different enough that I was always the only Bethany in my class but everyone knows of the name. One of my gymnastics coaches used to call me Beth Annie which I also love. Though, working for customer service on the phones now I get called Stephanie, Brittany, and Ebony all the time.

I love Edith. It's from Downton Abbey and I love that. You could shorten it to Eddie, like the boy name. That's different and cute. Victorian and 20s names are so beautiful.
