I’m in Australia and I think your videos are great. Every one so far has a white picket fence, and I am just starting to think that maybe they are different houses. First one I’ve seen that has any patchiness in it. It’s nice to see someone who can actually present a lawn that is clearly imperfect to be honest on KZbin most of them seem to be showing off a great lawn and then complaining about something that can’t be seen in the video. Great camera work too.

A sharpening of the mower blade will help because the end of blades are hurting it looks like, tuff to tell in video but this can help aid in fungus but same with poor watering habits. Water once a week and put down .5 to 1 inch of water newbies

Pretty new to lawn care myself but that was something that jumped out at me too. I wonder if it’s accurate?
@chosen1one930
@chosen1one930 3 жыл бұрын
@@robertjohnston25 yes its accurate. I have a degree in turf management and have 15 years on course experience and counting. Improper cutting can hurt your lawn from growth to disease. Some grasses are more prone to this but its best to sharpen once a month during mowing seasons, twice a month for zoysia. We sharpen waalk behind greensmowers twice a week, we have 12 greensmaster flex mowers we swiitch them out so we never have to worry about mowers not being ready every morning.
@pestandlawnginja

great feedback. the biggest issue is evaporation rates. .5" to 1" of water may work for many areas. mine however is not one. with temps getting to 105 degrees and evaporation rates being greater than 1" per week its not a sustainable model for the long term during the summer months.

Great video. Thinking this is our issue but not 100% sure. Newly seeded lawn is only 8 weeks old this Friday. Some parts I’ve already had to lightly mow cause it’s growing so fast it’s starting to block our underground sprinklers. Other parts aren’t coming up as much and are starting to turn yellow and the ground is still wet. We were still watering daily before getting hammered with lots of rain the last couple of weeks.

That was informative , I just subbed to your channel .I live in Ga. We have had high temps and humidity , and a lot of rain and storms , at times 6 to 7 days in a row . I reseeded parts of my lawn where I had septic tank and line repairs , my soil is very much red clay , I spread some top soil when I seeded in the end of October 2017 , fertilized with triple 10 every 6 weeks as the instructions , the grass was beautiful until about 6 weeks ago then the brown out started , now its almost gone , the ground looks black , its in a shady area and not much sun , I guess I will do it again in October , my yards large and no irrigation , in the past with fescue turfs it takes about 5 years to get somewhat of a healthy lawn here .
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for telling me this. The areas that are dying almost sound like pythium blight that's traveling through the lawn. This happens due to humidity and too much water. It spreads very fast and completes its life cycle within 30 days. For the red clay humates are going to be your friend. I would put down a humic granular every other month during the growing season. As for rebuilding the shady areas I would consult a local nursery or seed distribution company and find a perennial rye grass or rhizomatous tall fescue.

Hey Friend....I am already subscribed and have a question about overseeding/seeding. In my front yard I have some bare spots and thin grassy areas. Want to thicken it out...Have overseed once...No clear indication of germination. I do have some growth that is not seed. Dont know what it is but ready to hit it with my dethacther, in that spot and/or tenacity and try this overseeding again....I feel I didnt water enough. I know it's an important part of overseeding. I bought some sprokilers, timer, steel rake, more seed, etc...ready to take this on again...Any advice..? Tried to include photo of yard...wasnt able to...

Hey David! it all depends on the type of grass seed you're germinating. rye and fescue are extremely fast. where bluegrass can take anywhere between 3 and 5 weeks before they sprout. if it's been a few weeks don't get too frustrated but if you let the soil dry out then there is a little room to be worried and it may be time to do it again.

Pest and Lawn Ginja .. Good deal, brotha!! This video was VERY helpful to a situation I'm in the middle of right now. Going to cut back on the H20 and see if some of the issues clear up. Took the info from another one of your videos and used a screwdriver to probe . Looks like I'm over watering. Anyway, I truly appreciate your efforts and time! ✌️

I just got some Bermuda SOD planted on March 16 and it was looking great and fully green. Now we are in the end of April and I got a lot of brown spots all over my lawn......Please help!! I live in West Texas....I have water restrictions and can only water 3 times a week. I do my best to water and I water in the mornings....Still no success. Please let me know what else I can do. This coming saturday will be my 6 weeks into my lawn and will need to fertilize the lawn. What do you suggest for me to get? I was thinking of going 10-10-10 but not quite sure. Thank you.

you'll want to bag simply because this is what is causing the spreading of the fungus

depends on when you last put fertilizer down. if you're more than 4 weeks out you can afford 5lbs per 1000 sq ft of a 21 to 25 based solution.

Great question. The answer isn't how many minutes it's how many inches. see myallgreen.com/watering . you'll need 1.75" to 2" per week of water. follow the video exercise at the bottom of the page to figure out your water output.

Thank you Ginja! Very informative. I’m currently dealing with the exact same issue with the melting out in my lawn. Can you recommend a product for the biostimulant with the ammonium nitrate? Thanks!
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja Жыл бұрын
azoxystrobin fungicide from my experience has done the best at controlling it. if you're low in iron I've had good luck doing regular iron treatments as well. As for ammonium nitrates the one i liked the most just pulled the product off the shelves which was sodium knockout. i am not aware of a bio stimulant with ammonium nitrate.

We always hear that deep, infrequent watering is best, and daily shallow watering causes shallow roots... but (from what I’ve heard) golf courses water daily, and their grass is beautiful! Do they have shallow roots? Do I care if I have shallow roots if my lawn looks like a golf course? Thanks for all your help!!

Wish you were in my neighbourhood. I actually ran out and turned the water off after watching your video. I picked up two mushrooms this morning. My 2 month old sod is looking much the same with yellowing through most of it. I called my turf supplier yesterday and he recommended daily watering. I had dropped down to three days a week. I use a wand hose and hand water. I did fertilize a week ago as I thought that might help. Do you think adding the product you recommended would be prudent at this stage. I will let it grow longer before mowing. I have been keeping it around 3 inches.

this product is great for speeding up recovery. its a great choice for summer heat stress as well. in your case it will eventually kick out but i do recommend it.

I'm up a bit further north (in Corinne, west of Brigham City). I'm fairly certain I've been over watering. How do you water in this heat then with cool season grass? I water every other day to keep it green. Same amount of water, just fewer days? Also, with my soil being alkaline (fairly certain) I've been looking at putting down elemental sulfur. My grass is very light green in patches, and trees have iron chlorosis. Is that a good long term fix rather than infrequent doses of chelated iron? This was a great video. Answered questions I have had. Pretty certain I've got a bit of fungus also from my watering.
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian. thanks for the comment. In my experience centeral to northern utah soil is between a 7.0 and an 8.0. It is high. I've never tried the elemental sulfur approach. Not to say it wouldn't work. IMO from the people that I've talked with its been a short gain a year or two of applications. The ag department recommends up to 4lbs of nitrogen per year to help balance out the PH for Kentucky Bluegrass, Rye Grass, and Fescue type lawns. I'm all about limited the nitrogen content and my fingers are crossed you can get some long term results with the elemental sulfur. my opinion on the tree is that it is exhibiting lack of iron. The elemental sulfur may help chelate the iron that is already available in the soil so you're on the right track. When I do tree diagnosing and see trees with lack of iron symptoms I first look at the feeder roots to make sure they're not damaged. The lack of iron is generally a symptom of stress or nutrient deficiency. The stress is generally caused by one of three things 1. the tree wasn't planted correctly, commonly too deep. 2. a feeder root(s) were damaged at some point 3. not enough available sources of nutrients for the size of the tree. This is commonly an issue with trees larger than 10" in caliper diameter.

What options do you have for Mother Nature over watering? I live in NJ and it seems that it’s raining 5 days out of 7 and it’s raining inches a week. I do have mushrooms and I question possibly fungus to. Suggestions?

The only creative thinking I've come up with is a high powered leaf blower and regularly blowing the excess moisture off. It would be a lot of hassle but the top layers will dry off a bit faster

Excellent video and great education on the process of identifying and resolution; Thanks! Can you advise on a problem I can't seem to control? I have Zoysia and live in Central Florida. I made a lower than normal cut at the end of March to control thatch (although it was not necessary as I then discovered I did not have such an issue). Since then, a large portion on the lawn turned completely brown to the point of a dead appearance, which has been struggling in that state until now. Bugs and Fungus issues usually occur in mid-summer, so I did not think that was the cause. I water three times per week, so didn't think it was an overwatering issue. The Florida heat came earlier than normal this year, so I first thought fungus is the cause. How can I further troubleshoot, and what recommendations you might offer? Thank you for your time, and keep up the great work with sharing. Best Regards and God Bless.

by the description it sounds like you may have scalped the grass. you need to promote a recovery service. I would consider a combination of sea kelp, calcium and humates and a little nitrogen.

Thanks for the video. I have a 1 yr old lawn. Sod laid last fall. Thatch is a little thick. Too much rain and watering has resulted in leaf spot and mushrooms. Ill let it dry out as weather is finally letting up. I applied scotts fertilizer 20 days ago. Once dried out should i fertilize again? I read too much N can cause leaf spot. If so what fertiliZer. Im in canada. Thanks!

Hi 👋 Too much fertilizer can cause issues when the soil natively has an optimal or high range of N. Which is why I recommend soil testing on plant available nutrients. I do like to push or force a bit of growth so we can cut the head off
