Well Tennessee Whiskey isn't Chris song it's an old country song he covered it as many others have so Being that to my knowledge he never took credit for the arrangement there wouldn't be a case.

@@KeithPonder21 you realize a lot of musicians do this right?? Eminem used the beat from dream on by Aerosmith in one of his songs. The metal band avenged sevenfold also used the beat from a Metallica song called sad but true in one of their songs as well. It’s not stealing.

George Jones *covered* it… the original recording was David Allen Coe. But neither of them wrote it, so it isn’t “their” lyrics - it was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove.

he should paying her estate for sure.. it's her song!! no embellishments. it's just talking about whiskey, which by the way was taught to Jack Daniels by "uncle earnest" (also African American). I mean unless Chris Stapleton acknowledges etta every time he sings this song it is unethical of him, in the least.

It’s not that deep relax chica. Both are amazing artists who didn’t write either of these songs. Tennessee whiskey is a cover from David Allen coe the only thing is Chris put in some of Etta’s guitarist in there. Really should be paying royalties to the guitarist. Again tho it ain’t tht deep

He is profiting from the use of material that was originally stolen by deception. Even though he isn't legally required to, he should have acknowledged her out of respect for a fellow artist. I like his version of that song, but it will always have an asterisk* because of the history. Music by Black artists was routinely stolen.

nope....It was first recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name Tennessee Whiskey released in 1981. His version is recorded in more of a traditional country style. Commercially, it peaked at number 77 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove....so somebody definitely needs to get their facts straight
