Look, I never comment on youtube videos, but this deserves it. Every few months I come back here to remind myself to feel deeply and to leave everything on the freaking table. She bares her entire soul to us. What a gift that we get to witness it. This performance never ever fails to leave me in tears.

everyone's talking about Etta, and rightfully so, but god damn that guitarist knows just the right amount to fill out the song while still leaving so spacious for all that emotion to soak in. The whole fucking band is locked in, honestly.

Jesus, how many comments did this song have ? When I met my husband 38 years ago this was one of the first songs he ever played for me I was a newly qualified Solicitor and because of all my studies I was never exposed to music I was overwhelmed when I heard it. It is now forty years later My darling husband and soul mate died on the 22nd of November 2021 I am broken hearted but still in February 2024 I play it every night and my heart breaks all over again It is an amazing experience listening to Etta James .I will listen to this song until I die and lie in my grave with my beautiful soul mate again I can’t wait to be with him forever

Its' now 2024 and I'm 78yrs old and when I feel hurt, sad, and alone, I play this song. When your children treat you like your not important and you never did any thing for them, it HURTS. I'm hurting so deep down inside, tears are rolling down my face.as I listen to this song. This pass year so many things have happen in my life, but I must say, AS LONG AS i AM ABOVE THE DIRT, GOD IS NOT FINISH WITH ME. He still has work for me to do and maybe one day the ones I LOVE will see it. That's why I continue to SEW, CROCHET, GARDEN, AND HELP OTHERS WHEN I CAN. REMEMBER TO BE KIND TO OTHERS.

This is real art. I have never experienced this kind of heart break spoken about in this song. Yet she transported me to that exact place of deep pain and made me feel it. Feel it to the point of watching tears run down my cheeks helplessly. This is why Etta James is Etta James.

Joseph right on brother! This is the art of singing the blues. You know I'm 57 years old and I just became a Blues fan and I have none other than the great Gregory Allman for that he turned me on to the Blues because he loves the blue so much. Saw Etta about 6 months prior to her passing, opening for Al Green and BB King. She was helped out on stage and sat on a chair for her set. She still could sing the hell out of all of her songs. ❤

It gives me the tears as well. I know its a great song when I can cry without having it remind me of a past love. The only other song that does that to me in the same way is Claire de Lune. I heard it as a kid and cried for no reason. My mom said I was an old soul. Now Im just old. 🤦‍♀️

There will never be another Etta James, this performance just makes me love her more. The soul, true grit, and emotion in her voice during this song was phenomenal. I was 6 years old, went to spend a weekend with my Aunt Betty and she played this song for me. She always bought records as soon as they came out. My parents did not let me listen to music like this. But My Auntie said, What goes on in her house stays in her house." It was a secret we kept between us. I learned to love all kinds of music, especially the Blues and Jazz.

@@mariahyohannes Even if they did have it, it wouldn't have been accepted. A robot voice could never express a human emotion. That's why anyone from this era considers todays music garbage and talentless. When you have been exposed to real music and artist that are one of a kind voice, that brings something special. its hard to accept music that sounds exactly the same no matter what artist is playing with nothing special to display. For instance when Bruno Mars was using autotune, I thought he sounded horrible. But when I heard him sing with his actual voice, His actual talent shines. I thought he was great. You can not get the emotions of a song that comes from a singers voice from a computer. Imagine James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Al Green on autotune.. why would anyone ever want to destroy something so special?
