It should be understood that Eddie Antar never defrauded his customers. He was arrested for defrauding his investors.
@davidjames99358 жыл бұрын
How can someone defraud investors without defrauding customers? An investor buys into the company so in a way they are a customer since one definition of customer is a person of a specified kind that one has to deal with. An investor seems to fit into that category.
@Barb50018 жыл бұрын
Simple.....He defrauded investors by pretending to have much more stock that he actually had by moving the same stock from warehouse to warehouse.....only showing the newly filled warehouse to a given investor.. This made it seem like he had a much larger company to investors then he had in reality ...as they never knew that the other warehouses were emptied, just to fill the one that they they were viewing. Then, when he when bankrupt, the investors were left holding the empty bag . However, he never defrauded customers and stood behind what he sold...at the lowest prices around .

He also defrauded the US government. Eddie skimmed millions in cash from the business.

Well, I knew a service manager who said that one way for employees to get extra money was "lunching", i.e. working your lunch period repackaging returned item boxes to look new. They had all the tape and other things needed to make it look new. So returns went right back on the shelves. Also, they were big enough so that while they would match any price for the same make and model, they were big enough to have the manufacturers give them their own product numbers. So while you checked Macy's and found an RCA tv model GXW-34445A, Crazy Eddie would have GWX-34445D. DIfferent model, no price matching.

I remember when this commercial first came out in the late 70s, and it's one of those songs you just can't get out of your head every once in awhile, even though the owner got into legal trouble it was still a very cool song, like a Billy Joel Innocent Man album, for all these old classics

🍷Agree 100%!! I think they could have, if they gave it to Sha-Na-Na, it could've worked. Since they were an established and legendary act. These awesome and talented guys in the ad were unknown. Better than a lot of music today tho. 👍🏻

I've been searching for this commercial for years and couldn't find it because I couldn't remember what the commercial was for. I could only remember these guys singing in the bathroom and the one guy singing 'whole wide woild'. I was looking at old Crazy Eddie 'classic' commercials now and I saw this as a recommended video, recognizing the thumbnail image right away. It's nothing like the other Crazy Eddie commercials which is probably why I forgot this was a Crazy Eddie commercial. I was always thinking it was some sort of PSA.

I bought a portable cassette player at the 8th street 6th Avenue store. Brought it out to the car and took it out of the box and the knobs on it were all broken. I brought it back to the store immediately and they wouldn’t accept a return. So when they got busted I had the last laugh. Still love the commercials though but a shitty business. Then came The Wiz and they allowed you to return everything

The commercials were great. Ran into Joey Ramone a couple of times at the store on 8th and 6th Ave. He was picking up Atari video games. But the store was shit. I bought a boom box there for $75. Took it out of the box and all the knobs fell off. Brought it right back to the store like 30 minutes after I bought it and they wouldn’t take it back. So, surprised the asshole got arrested? Nope. But I laughed my ass off
