For clarification, while they have most of The Tenth Planet, only the final episode of the serial remains missing to this day there are a few snippets of the episode that have been found over the years, but as far as I know one of the biggest clips they have from the episode is of the first regeneration, which is on KZbin if I remember correctly.

Trivia point - the black astronaut in the early episodes, the first known black astronaut portrayed on tv, is played by Earl Cameron. At the time of his death in 2020 he was one month short of his 102nd birthday, and the oldest surviving actor who appeared in Dr Who. This record was passed in 2023 when Arnold Yarrow became 103.

William Russell is 99 (He played as Ian one last time last year I believe); David Graham is 97 (voices of the Daleks and Cyberman, he still does voice acting to this day). Tom Baker the 4th Doctor is now 90.

This is an awesome story for the Cybermen, to make their debut in and it sees out Dr one and sees in Dr two.

You have to remember that the concept of regeneration was a last minute solution, so there were no rules as to how it works. Hartnell wasn't told to step down as the Doctor until during filming for the previous story 'The Smugglers'.

Good reaction as always dude. This is one that’s gone down well when I’ve shown it to non-fanboy mates. I like how the Doctor seems to treat it like an historical event he already knows about, it doesn’t get explored much but I kind of find it cool and mysterious that he knows more than everyone else. A good one for Ben and Polly too. Hope you enjoyed the proper footage of the regeneration when you got round to seeing it. Also I think another reason the Doctor dies is cos he lost a ton of the life he would have had at the end of Daleks Masterplan when he isn’t aged to death, but humans and Daleks are

I think in universe its implied mondas started sapping the doctor's energy too. He was weak as it was but being on earth under Mondas until it died rather than being blown up killed him. When he reappeared in episode 4 he was already regenerating.

That was Hartnell's body double that collapsed on to the floor. William Hartnell telegraphed the studios informing of his absence. He didn't appeared at all in Episode 3 because of a real life illness.

So, the cybermen disguising themselves. Originally the script was written with the assumption that they would be much more human like in their designs. So it just... looks like that. XD I absolutely adore the design too. The atonal singsong voice, and with the higher quality of these copies you can actually see their eyes under those surgical masks, gives this really fucking eerie feeling like there's just, a corpse walking under all those Spare Parts.

You saw the original footage in 'Twice Upon A Time' of the regeneration, which survived as a clip for Blue Peter I think, or something like that.

Yes. Peter Purves hosted Blue Peter. He shown clips of the regeneration in the early 1970s.

The canon reason for the Doctor getting weak is that the energy drain from Mondas hits the Doctor harder because he isn't human and he is coming to the end of his first life anyways. He is over 300 years old at this point.

Plus, William Hartnell was truly in poor health by this time. His arteriosclerosis was flaring up bad during this serial.

I'm going through the novelisation of this story right now and the idea seems to be that 1) The Doctor WAS getting especially old, and Ben and Polly were noticing it even as they were getting ready to leave the TARDIS, 2) Mondas's vaguely explained 'energy draining' also drained The Doctor's life force specifically, pushing him over the edge. The two astronauts also had their energy drained to the point they could barely operate the controls. So these factors both contributed to The Doctor's regeneration.

In the novel, the film Ben fiends, and blinds the Cyberman is a James Bond movie.

some fans also point out that the first Doctor had recently been caught in the effect of the Time Destructor, and then had his vital force drained by The Elders. Both of which hastened his regeneration.

The Cyberman was conjured up by a real life scientist who later wrote some of the scripts. One of the voices of the Cyberman is David Graham who did voiced classic Daleks. Hes now 97 and still does voice acting. Earl Cameron, the black astronaut lived to be 102, died in 2020. Anneke Wills is a pretty one isn't she? She married to Batman's Alfred (Michael Gough), She retired from acting a few years after she left Doctor Who

The regeneration scene does exist which is the only portion of that episode it's available on KZbin it was also used in Peter Capaldi's final episode "Twice Upon A Time" when the First Doctor dies and fades back to black and white there is also 8mm clips of the episode as well that was filmed by an unknown Australian fan during broadcast on the ABC in Australia at the time back in the 60's which shows bits and pieces which is available on KZbin and the Lost in Time DVD. Although William Hartnell does not appear in Episode 3 he's still the top billing star of the show so of course they are going have his name in the credits it was also done in "Mission to the Unknown". Bare in mind the regeneration was a new thing back then they weren't sure if this idea was going to work or not as this was never done to a character on television before there were 2 options it was either end the show with William Hartnell or cast a new actor but they weren't sure how to work it but then producer Innes Lloyd because of the Doctor's alien ability came up with a clever idea of "regeneration" although it wasn't called that then until the end of The Third Doctor's run the process was unnamed until that point.

This story, broadcast in Oct.1966, when Star Trek had been on American TV only like 3 weeks. With Trek crew of many ethnic’ -wouldn’t have influenced this story. Trek had been filming the first series for months, but Who had been on for 3 years. The two Astronauts, one from New Zealand the other actor was Caribbean (the actor lived until 100, only died in recent years) Even the office of the U.N.Minister -more diverse in cast than many Who to this point. The actor playing the American General had a role in 2001:a Space Odyssey, at the Moonbase.

Even as early as the 1960s, the concepts of spare parts surgery was ethically debated, we humans would lose so many body parts to covert into a man made of metal, are we still human, is the leading question.

First Doctor’s final story is a good one. Ben and Polly shine as the companions. Cybermen were very creepy. Exterior snow scenes looked very realistic. Thank you to William Hsrtnells strong performance in making the series a success. Tough job Patrick Troughton had as the first replacement Doctor. He pulls it off with aplomb. Look forward to the First Doctor review. Yes your reactions are funny, unique and fresh. Don’t change!!

What makes the early Dr Who special is how it makes someone like MurkMovies consider the moral dilemmas that the characters face. This is what’s missing, if we ignore Murk’s flippant comments, from Doctor Who now.

@@MurkMovies I love your KZbin videos on Doctor Who, great to see you getting so much out of them. Poor old William Hartnell, because I’d watched Dr Who from day one it took me a while to get used to Patrick Troughton and at the time we didn’t know the reason Hartnell had left the show. Hope you enjoy the Troughton era and I look forward to your overview of the Hartnell Doctor. It will be interesting to see what you think about his take on the role compared with the original Doctor. Enjoy An Adventure in Space and Time, I did and its my opinion as a Hartnell fan that David Bradley played the role of Hartnell as fairly and accurately as possible. I know some Whovarians think it didn’t depict him correctly, but I think they don’t like the fact that in the 1960s attitudes were often racist and sexist. Back then that was the norm, like it or not Hartnell was born before the First World War and grew up in a period when Britain still had an empire and his world view came from that period in history. I believe he was aware that some of his views were wrong, but he couldn’t help seeing women and people of colour in a way that was gradually becoming unacceptable by the 1960s.

Yes the cause of The First Doctor's regeneration was simply "old age" though some will say it's due to the energy drain from the planet Mondas but I don't really buy that because it was the same cause with The War Doctor and The Eleventh Doctor it is possible for a Time Lord to die of old age then regenerate.
