I have a locked in memory of this game. The day I beat the game was such an awesome day. I remember this huge feeling of satisfaction. I turned the game off and with a smile on my face went into the living room to sit with my parents while they finished watching the Shirley McClane, Nicholas Cage movie "Guarding Tess." Desert Strike and Nicholas Cage. Pure Awesome!

One of my all time fave games this! EA could redeem themselves a bit if they remake these but with first person on foot (like battlefield) moments where you can enter a building with a gun and rescue hostages or whatever. co-op with a friend who can fly the chopper and you can be the gunner and winch man. the levels could be big and open like in the original games where they could release each level episodically. like ioi did with hitman they made large detailed levels with plenty of replay value and i think this would translate well to the desert strike levels where there are plenty of ways to approach each mission. get acheivments for example for beating a mission ahead of another such as destroying the airfield on high alert. i think though if they were to re release them they would just make it an arcade style shooter and ditch the need to get fuel. or worst yet they will make it a mobile base building game and you need to pay £5.99 for 100 fuel drums or 10000000 xp for 1 fuel drum or something..... EA games were amazing back in the day they need to sell this game licence out to other studios or something.

I am absolutely fond of this game. I think this game is one of the true under-rated classics on both the sega genesis and super nintendo. I never see this game appear on anybody's top 10 or top 20 list. I simply love this game because of its difficulty. This game can get hard but it has that right amount of difficulty I absolutely love.

I still enjoy the occasional blast on this game today. What makes it work is the fact that you have limited ammo, fuel and cargo capacity, and you can't afford to waste much. You have to really think about how you're going to do the missions. Without those restrictions (unlimited ammo etc) it would be just another 16-bit shooter. While it wasn't perfect, I think Desert Strike is a perfect example of how putting limitations on the player gives a game depth.

It's been too long since I played this game. I don't remember the game having cutscenes. Or perhaps I always skipped them. I recall that when I completed the final mission, I was actually surprised to see a cutscene before the ending. Aside from that, yes, very good game. I once got up in the morning and before I went to school, I played a little bit of it but went over the time I had to wake my dad up and he took it away. It wasn't worth it but dang it, I wanted to play it some more.

I had this on the Amiga. The sound is better; for example, when nearing an area where downed pilots are, they shout 'Over here!'. When I got a PC, I got Desert Strike for that, and the sound was very weedy. On the flip side, Amiga controllers only had one fire button, so to change from cannon to missiles, you had to press the space bar.

I played this game for months, then Urban Strike and on and on for years. I recently reordered all the games along with a used genesis and realized that I no longer was entertained by this, lol. Times change after 20 years. One Genesis game (or even any video game for that matter) that I still enjoy is Star Control (for the Genesis) That game has awesome replay ability mostly because it's probably the only game I don't suck at.
