Classic Game Room reviews GALAXIAN for the Sony Playstation 1 video game console system. Not to be confused with Galaga, this is a different game. Similar in style to Space Invaders or Demon Attack, Galaxian is a fun arcade retro old school classic from 1979 that is fun to pick up and play. Shoot the aliens before they shoot you, it's that simple. This review comes from the Namco museum volume 3 for the PS1. Other games on the disc include Ms. Pac Man, Dig Dug, Pole Position 2 and Phozon. This video marks the first useage of the verb "chewlaxian" which is the art of watching the Empire Strikes Back while playing Galaxian. This should make it on to Xbox Live.

This must be the best version of the original. It is apparently true arcade with no "reprogramming" apart from the fact the score has been relocated to the side since the original game was made for vertical screen. So now we can all play it on horizontal TV in true arcade quality.

When you put Galaxian for the PS1, I thought you meant Galaxian 3, that 3D shooter with the massive cinema sized screen. No idea why.

Namco Museum Volume 3 was the first Playstation 1 game I got. I received it for Christmas with the console back in 1998. :)

I love this version of Namco Museum, it has pole Position II and DigDug on it too. God I love DigDug. I like Galaga better than Galaxian though.

The whole formation stops moving if your shot is between a gap so that's why the shots tend to miss a lot. You can't get the higher aliens to run into the shots like in Space Invaders.

I always thought Galaxian was too much like Space Invaders until I played it's sequel. It wasn't until Galaga that I appreciated how much fun the enemy formations in these games are. Things like that are usually lost in later shoot em ups that focus on bullet patterns instead. If you like this classic style check out Verytex for the Megadrive. It wasn't released outside of Japan but it's a must for anyone who likes this style of enemy waves updated with power ups, acts, and end bosses.

haha nice. I really like Galaxian probably because it was on the Namco Museum and no one really ever talked about it. People just talk about Space Invaders (which is sick) and Galaga. So Galaxian really grew on me. I have Galaxian (2600) for my Atari 7800 now but I do miss playing it on my Namco Museum because it looked really nice! (no Xbox anymore). And of course the Star Wars tie in is awesome. I can remember that scene like it happened yesterday :D Stupid Storm Troopers.

First played Galaxian at the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Md, back in 1980. Have it loaded onto a Super Retro-Cade and was playing it this afternoon. Definitely one of the "original gangster" classic arcade games. Thanks for showing it some love.

My family went on vacation, to Ocean City, Md, summer '79. I remember seeing video games on the Boardwalk. What an impression that left, as video games were still quite a new thing to so many people! Do you remember the haunted house on the boardwalk?

Galaga is WAY better than Galaxian. Because in Galaga, you get dual fighters which doubles your firepower. Galaga Legions DX is also good as well. My two favorite shooters are Galaga and Space Invaders.

No Clone Troopers can Actually shoot. After the Galactic Empire was established they ended cloning. And started using normal Troopers since a lot of the Clones started turning against them. It's in several Novels.
