It's all based on preference. Personally, I like K-Pop, J-Pop, 90's and Early 2000's Pop, Alternative Pop Punk, Christian Hard Rock, among other things. I like Eurobeat, as well.

Other than saying it's a good racing game, this review feels incomplete. There's no mention of the unique driving techniques that sets the series apart from others, no idea of how big Initial D was and still is in Japan, no recognition of how the saga leverages the touge automotive tradition. It was perfectly doable in the 5 minutes of the review, but the author feels rather bored somehow...

+StriderCT Totally agreed I've seen alot of his reviews and it seems he puts them out there more for views than out of respect for the arcade culture that this game delivered to the home console. im sure he has never played the original arcade version before this game was ported and if he did then this review would have been stellar.

did you read game magazines? I remember when EGM has three people reviews. Sometiems in a small corner. How big it is in japan is unimportant. You want a history lesson. And I read enough manga to know about what you're talking about(and looked up webpages on it as well). But you're expecting someone to be as into as you are is unrealistic. Here's taking and talking about what the game is. Not researching the history of it. And the bored thing is in your head. Again he just isn't as enthusiastic as you perhaps. What you want isn't inherently wrong. I like the Retrospective film reviews that go in depth about certain things. But you can't expect that from everyone. That isn't an exact right way of doing this. Nor can you everything from everyone. I'm sure no matter what, some people will pick topics to discuss and not discuss. I don't assume the Retrospective reviews cover everything for example.

I will never forget this, but one time on my birthday my friends and I were eating at a burger place and I went to the mall next to it and there was also a some parade going on and in the mall there was an arcade. We went in and we couldn't find many good games and I saw this one racing game, little did I know it was a Initial D one. I chose a random track and a random car which also happened to be the ae86/Trueno. As I was playing I noticed the steering wheel was very loose and it wouldn't resist my turning. This caused me not to play at my full potential and after the quick race, I got the highest score on the arcade machine. I don't know if my record is still on there, hell the machine might be gone by now. If it's still there I hope they actually change the steering wheel back to its default configuration so I could beat my record.

The manga is amazing! One of my most favorite! It's about a teenager who drives his dad's old Toyota Corolla AE86, but even if it's old, it's the best for drifting, and he delivers Tofu with it, but gradually he practices drifting to deliver faster, and other street racers end up challenging him, even if he doesn't to, but since his skills are so god-like, his old AE86 beats so many pros that they get jealous and the series is about how he becomes the greatest street racer in Japan!

2:03 It's called EUROBEAT. These songs are (underrated) gems made by Italian musicians such as Dave Rodgers and Max Coveri. While m.o.v.e is a Japanese group who had a lot of their songs featured in the anime (and plz anime is NOT CARTOON), example is Gamble Rumble which is the opening song for this game.

@InecomCompany interesting review, (i won't get into the music thing even though i do use the music for driving here in the states) i was wondering about this game, but i noticed something missing in your review, when you were talking about the other versions released you didn't mention street stage on the psp. i would highly recommend it if you like/want special stage, and you don't have the money for a japan version ps2 (since it's pretty easy and inexpensive to mod a psp for games from japan)

you'd be surprise how many from the west coast knows about this game. the J-Pop music was a staple to the anime & it was tied in great with the game. as a fan of the game, you have to watch the anime to get a general idea what the story line is. just a bit of advice play using the RX-7 FD and FC and use the Corolla 86 Trueno

Most of the songs used in Initial D are actually Eurobeat songs. Only a few of the tracks are actually in Japanese but most are originally from Europe.

oh wow initial D...used to play an arcade version alot when i was in high school, used to have bunta's version of the Subaru Impreza. lol it was pretty cool having a car no one else knew how to get. also had a skyline, didn't use it a whole lot though. thing was a nightmare to use on tracks with alot of tight corners, so pretty much 90% of the tracks lol
