Classic Game Room HD breaks out the HD camera and reviews the NINTENDO GAMECUBE video game controller! This controller is awesome and is Nintendo's 2nd only to the NES Advantage. This controller has a nice feel to it, good controls, thumb sticks and a well positioned D-pad. It fits nicely into the hands and is great for a variety of games on the Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. Yes the Gamecube controller will work with the Wii for some games (and all Gamecube games). Will Nintendo come out with a wireless version of the Gamecube controller in the future? (maybe they alread have, don't know...) The fact that the main action button is square in the middle with the satellite buttons orbiting it is a fucking stroke of genius. This controller is the best. It's a N64 controller, but better as it's more comfortable, easy to access buttons, and good triggers. The Super Nintendo controller felt too small for my hands. While the wii pro felt bland and glossy to me. Gamecube comes in a lot of variety and I like it.

My favorite part about this controller is its durability. My siblings and I have played countless hours over ten years using the first Gamecube controllers we got, and we have not had to replace them once. By comparison, we have gone through at least a half dozen PS2 and Xbox 360 controllers in the same span of time for various reasons.

I beg to differ... My house's Gamecube controllers have lasted for years. Only just recently did the rubber peel off of one of the control sticks. I betcha the reason some people think they sticks are jacked up is because they don't know the trick to resetting the sticks: Hold X, Y, and Start at the same time for three seconds. It resets the neutral positions of the sticks and clears up a lot of problems involving them.

Hello, as you all might know Nintendo released the NES Classic Edition which uses the same controller plug as the Wii Nunchuck, which means that you can play with the NES controller on the Wii and Wii U Virtual console. What you might not know however is that a company called EMiO released a gamepad which is called the Edge Joystick, that is basically the NES Advantage, which wierdly enough has been reported that it does not work with the NES Classic Edition, it does however work with the Wii, Mark. Just thought I'd point that out if you missed it. (Yes, I know this video is 8 years old)

I have to say that the button layout is perfect to me, one main button from which you easily switch to the others, on other controllers there's always that fourth button which isn't comfortably near.

@dudedan98 -Most important button is biggest -Controller fits perfectly in my hands -Triggers are awesome -Stick is convex, yet your fingers wont slip (They 8-way indents are helpful too) -Made of Nintendium Yeah the C-Stick and Dpad are too small, and the Z button sucks, but it's still my favorite controller. Right up there with the 360.

Something not mentioned is the shoulder buttons are full analogue, which means the games can detect how far the buttons are pressed in. Very handy for racing.

When I first saw that controller when I was little, I called it the Confusing Controller because to me, it seemed like it had a lot of buttons. I still call it that today. :)

Does anyone else have a problem with the GameCube dpad? I think most GameCube players don't even use it enough to think about it. But for classic Sonic, Mario, or fighters, it just feels small tight and out of place in comparison to other Nintendo controllers.

i actually really liked the gc. i loved how light and portable the console was, i think the controller is the best ever, and i like how small the memory cards and game disks were. i think that whatever controller you play on is the one you will like, but i think people would be surprised if they gave this controller a go

It's missing L2 or the left shoulder button. Does both sticks have thumb click buttons? I also am not a fan of the hexagonal borders around the sticks. But I don't mind the layout of the face buttons.

It might be because it was the first controller I ever used, because I've been using it since it was released, but the GameCube controller feels so natural to me, it's like an extension of my fingers. There really is nothing like it. Whenever it's been a while since I've played with it, I'll find my GC controller and just feel it in my hands...

My alltime personal fav is the 360 controller... I just feel it's best suited for a grown-up's hands and I love the analog sticks and the amount of resistance. I actually like it more than the PS dualshock because of the placement of the analog sticks, the fact that it's textured and the fact that the wrigint on the buttons is underneath that transparent surface so that it won't erase after hundreds of hours of gameplay. Oh and the triggers just rule. I grew up with the PS one tho.

I remember when Gamecube came out, my friend got it and he called me telling me to get my ass to his house, his older brother and friends were playing some game and the graphics were just unbelievably realistic... now-a-days, to me, it still has that same feeling :) but i wonder what the next ten years will hold for the video game industries futures :)

One thing to say for Nintendo, their hardware is excellently built (although I have to admit I do not own a Wii as of yet). All my controllers still work, from NES up through Gamecube. Sony USED to have good quality (I have a Dualshock 1 still kicking around here) but I had two Dualshock 2s wear out on me. After that I just bought the cheap MadKatz because yes, they wore out too, but at least they were only six or seven bucks instead of 30. My Dualshock 3 seems pretty good quality, though.

i have all of those games, right now, its just that I couldent experience them when they were new! I am thankful for my love of nintendo which metroid prime started and thats my favorite video game of all time, (at least I experienced that game a little when it was newer at least at a friends house for a few minuites) so that inspired me to play all of the classic consoles. I now own a super nintendo that I bought myself, and its my favorite console ever made.

I absolutely love this controller, but there are a couple things that were horrible. 1. On the non-wireless controller, the Z button is extremely uncomfortable. 2. On the wireless controller, the C stick is REALLY easy to slip your thumb off of. 3. On both types, the analog sticks were different size than the other one on the same controller. 4. On both types, I think the left analog stick and d-pad should be switched around. Remember this is MY opinon, so don't hate. Still a great controller.

There is a wireless controller for the Gamecube, called the Wavebird, as heaps of people have probably pointed out. Its too heavy and not that comfortable, so its a bit of a tradeoff. There's a huge extra battery compartment in the middle that ruins the feel a bit.

The GC controller was very comfortable,but I hated some few aspects about it: -The D pad is way too small -There's no select button(this could make difference in some games) -The rubber plastic on top of the analog gets eroded -The analog stick is not resistent at all. It breaks way too easily

I LOOOVE this controller, it's so great for use with all kinds of games! You can play N64-games with it (via Virtual Console) AND you can use it with Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl!

@marfnl2 Left analog stick controls character movement, right analog stick (that little yellow c stick) controls the aiming. One of the two top buttons fires and the other buttons handle things like weapon changing. It works really well.

The analog stick looks almost exactly like the Wii Nunchuk analog stick. And when you move them around slowly, you notice that the analog stick is in an octagon.

You need to review the wavebird! I went through several(brand new) wireless controllers, each one messing up horribly, until i stumbled across a used wavebird at gamestop for $20. The absolute best gc controller ever made, it feels like a regular gc controller minus the wire. Great battery life too. Also look into the madcatz gc controller. It rivals the nintendo licensed controller in every way and feels better in my opinion ($7 at gamestop used)

GC has the best controller. The button arrangement is just brilliant. Make the high use button the largest, then surround it with the other buttons. I'm kind of pissed Nintendo abandoned that design

I had some huge problems with the Gamecube controller: 1. The lack of an SNES style diamond facebutton configuration was really awful. The Gamecube configuration was less usable. 2. D-pad was very small and not very usable. 3. Z-trigger is not placed very well, it is awkward to find. 4. Squishy/springy L & R buttons make it very awkward to use them as triggers. 5. While more durable, the analog stick is less responsive than a healthy N64 analog stick, or a ps2 analog stick.

They do i have 2 of them its gray but it takes battarays and on the very bottom of the controller it has a switch with 16 channels on it. Same thing with the plug so you have to put the same channel on the plug and controller. Its a very Great controller

They did have a wireless Gamecube controller called the Wavebird, which was a very good controller but had no rumble and was pretty bad for racing games (which pretty much was a fail genre on the system anyways).

no it is because Nintendo used a weak internal spring on the controllers, they were notorious for failure. Gamestop was used to exchanging them out on a regular basis. and yes i tried reseting it as you had said on all of the many i exchanged.

I do not own a 360, but I think the controller is wonderful in almost every way. It's by far the best controller I have ever used, ergonomically-speaking. However, the d-pad is a disaster, and is bad enough to ruin the whole thing (except for FPS games, where it's still awesome). So my favorite controller overall is the SNES (or rather the Super Famicom - I like the all-convex buttons) controller.
