The Mercedes Benz 600 Pullman was and still is the best limo ever produced. It was and still remains years ahead of it's time. This car defined class in a way no other car has ever managed to do.

The car needs more labour than a modern one. I guess i was lucky to buy one that is 'sorted" mechanically. Parts that are unique to it cost a lot more. Parts that are not are more reasonable. Not as reasonable as my old Nissan Altima !!!!!

The first time I saw this car on TV was in the Falcon Crest season 1 opening credits. Jane Wyman looked at home in it. The first time I saw this in person was when I was a child. I saw our dictator, Ferdinand Marcos drive by. It looked grand. Must be super costly to maintain one today.

A friend owned one and used it as a daily driver back in the early 80's. I rode in the Pullman many times and was amazed at how many cool features it had such as a birch lined refrigerated blast chiller in the console. Yes, parts and service were expensive, buy they were solid cars.

A confusing issue I find here is why the 600 was labelled as 600 missing the S designation because going by it's specifications this is clearly of S-Class if not Maybach standard i.e definitely a HUGE upgrade way above every other 'normal premium class' Mercedes-Benz car model like 190, 200, 280 etc. which are without the S designation unless it's a S-Class serie like 280 S etc. which even then this (non S-Class !) 600 is overall the superior model ! Indeed some times this Daimler AG does things in most confusing manner ??
@markrossow6303 Жыл бұрын
yes, Mercedes naming did get confused but S is a car size tax bracket, A to S -- the 600 was beyond S

And you didnt want to have your hands/fingers anywhere near the windows when they went up, the force of the hydraulic pressure would ensure decapitation! There was also a 2 door coupe variant built for Alfred Uhlenhaut the head of MB AG at that time, whether the coupe exists today is unknown.

Not for the common folk, that car is. It was built for evil dictators. While Jay Leno sees it has his toy, and his personal ultimate driving machine; I see it as a huge liability, and a very dangerous car. Well, mainly because I’m poor and broke, and I probably couldn’t afford to put a ball joint on it, if one broke, or even if I wanted to. ......and as for Mr. Leno, well, he really knew how to do something good with his life.... much more so than I, anyway ....and I respect and admire the man for it. He earned his good reputation. Aside from that: from what I read about those hydraulic fluid powered windows; keep your limbs away from them and make sure no one else’s limbs are obstructing the window if you decide to raise it. If you move those valve body switches abruptly (like you do on your Toyota or Ford’s power window switches) the windows can probably cleave off your hands or fingers, or badly crush them in a heartbeat. Those windows close fast. The hydraulic fluid is about 3,200 PSI under pressure, and if the system materializes a leak, the mineral oil hydraulic fluid leak itself can cut your skin like a knife, under those pressures. The trunk is a dangerous one too. You don’t get to close that one. You’ll ruin the trunk lid or the hinges holding it, if you try to close it yourself by pushing it down. To close it, you push a valve body button, and it closes with great force too. The hood’s probably the same, but that one, I haven’t looked at yet.

It is build from the early 60s so it is understandable if it needs more attention. But the later models of Mercedes having trouble?....well it is more questionable. After all the later models are made mostly of plastics. Especially in the engine bay. Now that's a nightmare.
