I'm not a person of colour and never had my hair done in a salon with old style hot irons but it's really cool to see people in the comments reliving their collective memories of getting their hair done on Easter Sunday and the horror of having your ears burnt by your mom. I love that. I remember my sister ironing my hair straight with a real clothes iron when I was a teen 😂 disgusting lol

I think that the marcel and the old-school pressing comb gives a straighter, silkier press than the flatirons. Just look how silky & shiny that hair is.
@gonnermleggies48134 жыл бұрын
Marcel's def give a better press but at the cost of potential hair burning. However, if you keep that iron moving, you can negate a lotta that damage. I love using marcel's on my clients. You can get all kinds of curls that a flat iron just can't give you.

It should be done as a matter of course without the need to thank a true professional. I was pleased when she said to challenge the hairdresser who uses a hotcombon the client's hair without testing the heat first on paper. My hair has been ruined on a number of occasions in salons and I have had to threaten legal action demanding them to offer treatment free of charge to restore my hair as some of them refuse to taje responsibility. Needless to say eveything is documented after initial phone call of complaint. Another thing that annoys me is the fact that some hairstylists do not have straighteners for different length of hair with disastrous results. It refreshing to find a true stylist who shares and can demonstrates the beauty and versatility of afro hair giving the same results and finish as European hair.
@ronwilliams7174 жыл бұрын
Hell Yeah! she has to trust me it aint cute when you burn the customers hair. They wont come back to you and if you are a real stylist and care about your craft you would take the time to check them irons. I can smell them and tell if they are to hot.Those irons if too hot will take all your hair out and you will have all sorts of broken hair through out your head. That girls hair was in great shape!!!
@l.dozier19844 жыл бұрын
How do you know if it's too hot when tested on the paper towel? Or when your hair is being burned?
@ellamitchell55664 жыл бұрын
@@l.dozier1984 if the paper/cloth turns brown then it means the iron is too hot which is the main reason for testing in the first place otherwise your hair will burn and could drop off. Some hairdressers are lazy and fail to follow this crucial step. The same goes for when you're timing your hair after relaxing or any form of chemical left in your hair do not leave it to stylist only but keep an eye on the time to protect your hair.

Hi Tasha, I'm a licensed cosmetologist for over 10 years now, all I used to know was the pressing comb and marcels. The one thing she didn't elaborate on was why us stylists transitioned to flat irons. Now of course I can't speak for deeper than hair I can give a few reasons why. 1. With the marcel you cannot control the temperature unlike a flat iron. 2. Flatirons have evolved so much over the years, plates, (titanium from ceramic) which for me the titanium iron presses out like a hot comb. The high heat setting of 450 degrees (which I personally never use it that high). Bonus fun fact, Hair starts to burn at 451 degrees. It's is 2019 and the hair industry is forever evolving, have you noticed the new electric hot comb!? Some brands the comb it's self is just as heavy with fine teeth like back in the day. Now just hot comb with a cord, for a heat regulated press. I hope this helps, happy holidays!

Trice McC The electric hot comb isn’t new I was using one back in the 80’s. The problem with today’s cosmetologist is they are not properly trained in using marcel irons and pressing combs. Pressing combs and irons needs to be tempered before you use them so they have even heat. Even in the video the information she gave about pressing combs and curling with marvels was incorrect.

Sitting on a Mrs. Tuckers lard bucket between my motherr's knees with a rag placed around my neck, and me holding my ear as she always managed to singe my ears and other parts of my facial area. She used lard, Royal crown and Hair Rep hair grease. Ultra Sheen was a luxury in my household back in athe day! I can still hear her saying, "Be'st yo head still." That was many many years ago before a flat iron was invented. I'm I my late fifties and Madea has been sleeping nowfor nine years,a but I still remember those crazy days! P.S. Great advice for using a hot comb. I've seen people's hair practically singed into extinction because stylists never tested the heat of comb. That put me off big time! Your friends hair was beautiful in the beginning, but you made it even more so. 😍🔥💯 I'm a new subbie with a TWA but I still love hair tutorials of all kinds. 29.11.19

That bothers me So much. In school, when we did thermal, we had to Keep wrapping papers next to the mannequin stand, and test with each application. You'll never know when an instructor will pass by while you're on an actually client, because points will get deducted if they see you use any iron without testing it. My aunt taught me that with a "hot rag" long ago, so it was automatic once I finally pursued my license

I miss the Marcel irons sooooo Much. Brings back so many memories...I been wanting some marcel curls especially as my hair has grown through the short phase because I remember they had the tiny iron for the very back of the short hair cut! Always looked so finished and good...the style wasn’t complete until they got the neck with the clippers and put some tiny curls in then comb it and spray... aaaah. You brought me good vibes today. Thank you... the new stuff is great but they can’t match the classics!

I have NEVER been to a beauty shop & would love to have you be the 1st professional stylist to do my hair. I am natural, my hair is super thick(4c), & I've never had my ends trimmed😬. Watching your videos changed my view about putting scissors to my hair. Would you consider doing a silk press and trim? I live in Texas but willing to travel. I ALWAYS take care of everyone else & feel like it's time to treat myself.

I never understood what 'hair wrapping' meant until I started watching your videos this past week. I'm a (contingently) white woman with 2C/3A curly hair, and my knowledge of Afro-textured hair has always been primarily centered on natural styling and maintenance with little or no heat. I love the care, respect, talent, and skill that's evident in the way you touch your clients' hair, and how glossy the pressed and wrapped hair turns out. I want some of that Glass Brilliant Shine spray; I wish you had a Canadian distributor!♥
