My grandmother made this but she didn't even cook with salt and pepper. I remember one day she stopped by our house when she was out shopping and my mother offered her lunch which was tuna mayonnaise sandwiches. My grandmother said how delicious they were and whatever did my mother use to make it taste so good. My mother looked at her deadpan and said salt and pepper. That's always been a funny story to me. I make this now with salt and pepper and I use a tiny bit of salt and pepper on top of the potatoes and just a mere pinch of paprika good paprika or smoked paprika. Thank you so much Cheryl for sharing some of the dishes I grew up on!! 😊💞

Hello from Texas. I will never be able to visit the homeland of my ancestors, so I thank you for providing a glimpse into the everyday life of Scotland. Due to an inner ear disorder I can’t fly or sail.

Hey! Shawn from North Carolina here. Thanks for this. It was wonderful. I used mushrooms instead of peas. Next time, I may add a little Guinness to the beef stick. The bottom potatoes came out almost roasted and a bit chewy. Fab!!! I used to do Dutch oven videos. I may adapt this for camping food in a Dutch oven and make a video. Thanks again!

I have so much enjoyed these traditional recipes this winter! I have some kind friends who "gifted" me with a good supply of root vegetables. And I know they are very healthy to eat, but I needed to find recipes for root veggies that taste really good. These Scottish hot pot recipes and stovie recipes do the trick; use up all those healthy, home grown carrots and turnips and parsnips while tasting really nice! Delicious! (And some people I know who practice holistic medicine tell me that "Eating root vegetables gives you courage!" I hope that's true!)

I found your website two days ago. My family are from the Borders; Carlisle and Dumfries and listening to you reminds me so much of my many visits to my cousins. (I am Canadian) And so much of what you make is familiar to me from my mother's cooking and from my Dad's mother's cooking. Just good decent home cooking where you don't have to go out and buy some ingredients that are too expensive, you have never heard or have to order online. This is the way REAL people cook,. Thanks so much for posting.

Was looking for a sadly forgotten recipe to use up some mince, fridge leftovers and alot of potatoes given to me by my MIL! This was PERFECT! My elderly teenagers loved it and my husband came back from his 1st Post-COVID day at work absolutely Hank Marvin! Filled his belly & sent him into a food coma! (Nag free evening😎). More please just like this.. I've subscribed to your channel! Can't believe I missed you!

Have yourself a GREAT WEEK!. Oh, you mentioned peas... one favorite growing up was Creamed Tuna and Peas on either Toast or Mashed Potatoes! So simple, but so yummy. 🌻 🌞 *LK*
