Can you remember if the final drive pinion gear and the final drive lined up fully ? The reason I'm asking is because in a gearbox that I'm getting ready to recondition, the two are not aligned 100% . It looks as if one of them is not in its correct position. I cant imagine that in such an application, the gears would not be fully engaged across their whole width. I just had a look and estimate they're about 8mm out of line. Either the final drive gear is to far toward the flywheel side or the pinion is too far toward the other side. But when running, it all worked Ok and had quite a lot of power going through it.

@@mrfid72 - I've already had a chat with the chap at guess works about a different matter, but may call again if it still looks out of line upon dismantling. I reckon that the pinion gear might be wider that the final drive, accounting for the apparent non alignment. I watched a video about someone fitting a cross pin diff and managed to catch a brief glimpse of the two gears and there did look to be the same non exact alignment. So maybe nothing to worry about.
