All good useful info, Thanks. I took my Jag to a show at the British Motor Museum for the 40th anniversary of the XJS yesterday and there were 600 Jags of every conceivable type there. It was brilliant

this was definitely good to see.. as repairing these hinges appears to be something any of us can accomplish w/o special drill presses, etc.. nice and thank you for sharing this.

Great update Dave, the XK is looking great. I'm glad the hinge pins worked out for you. Think I'll need to invest in a hinge pin kit now

Sean, Thanks, I was lucky i had the roll pin kit or i would have to wait for ages to get them from the UK. We were lucky they had been changed at some point as they can be a nightmare to get out when there badly worn, Cheers Dave

Sorry Dave did you ever do a vid on external hinges I’m struggling with my one’s ?
@ClassicCarCave4 жыл бұрын
Steve, I don‘t have a video i‘m afraid, But i have replaced them before if you want to drop me an e mail on davejaguar66@gmail.com and let me know what issues your having i may be able to help. The hinge pin has to be driven out from the bottom to the top as they are designed not to fall out, when you buy new pins you also get new brass bushes with them as this is what wears and the top of the pin has a multi spline so it locks in place and is flush with the hinge, I hope that helps a bit, Cheers Dave

Your client is pretty fussy. Hopefully you had enough profit to cater for these rectification. Those aluminium trims. You've used the normal clips to fit them. (I guess ) just fit them with sealant , the sort you use for fixing tiles or body sealant. Then you won't get distortion in the mouldings. The 150 hinges...that brings back memories ! They were a night mare ! I lead loaded both hinge panels form top to bottom after the hinge boxes were repaired. I must dig out some photo's and email them to you . Take care.

One question, when you drill all parts the same size does the new roll keeps still in the center piece and hinges on the top and bottom of the hinge? And so wear out that part of the hinge over time ?
@ClassicCarCave3 жыл бұрын
The original hinges were worn and oval so using a larger dia roll pin was the only way to be able to have tight hinges and no drop in ther door, The will of course wear out at some point but it will take yeras of use. Cheers Dave

Dave, I am trying to redo my door hinges with a similar issue with three of them. I just can't find who makes a 7mm split pin. Any help you could give would be appreciated.

I'm having trouble with my mk1 hinges. i've fitted the bronze bushs put the pin through but after you work it a few times, the pin picks up on the bush and turns the bush inside the hinge.
@ClassicCarCave4 жыл бұрын
Paul, It sounds like there it too much wear in the hinge to hold the bush tightly enough, As new ones are expensive i would take them to a machine shop and have them drilled out and brass or bronze bushes made with a larger diameter but the same I.D pin size, If you fit off the shelf parts and there loose they will just wear the hinge diameter hole even more. Cheers Dave
@paulrobinson35284 жыл бұрын
@@ClassicCarCave I know what you mean Dave but the new pins feel to tight in the bush. When you have fitted the new bush and just try the pin it feels over tight. I didn't drill the old bush out because i was scared of making the bush hole to big and by the looks they were the original bush. I used a fine file to slice the old bush so it could be just pushed out. I might order some bush kits from a different supplier and hope that it's a different manufactorer.
