Classic Mini - Engine install - First run of the key

sorry for the late reply. glad to hear I have another Leeds fan on the channel. I know Morley well as I used to work the Leeds patch...since got moved out to Harrogate and York. at least I don’t have the ring road to content with haha

Great vid Tom, can you perhaps give me more info on the carb float lid you are using as I’m currently looking at modding my current one which doesn’t have the overflow, maybe you can go over it in detail in your next vid? Keep up the good work and your engine is sounding sweet 😎👍🏻

Dan Ancona 1275 GT thanks pal, yes I can show that in my next video, to put it simply, the hs4 float bowl lid from my old carb is a direct replacement for the hs6, so if you can pick one of these up second hand plus a new gasket, your golden

hi tom just caught up with your video, another good video car just gets better and better just a quick tip dont use brake fluid in your dashpot as brake fluid is corrosive use standard automatic transmision fluid it is thinner than engine oil and gives good throttle response

trickster thanks pal, it’s starting to get there, it’s just always 1 step forward and 2 backwards with minis lol. So I used engine oil in my old mini and it seemed ok. I tried 3 in 1 and ATF in this car and it didn’t seem to work well, I had read that DOT4 works well so I tried it and it works great. I can’t imagine the corrosive properties would be much of an issue as the carb is aluminium, much the same as some brake callipers. I should stop being so tight and buy some SU oil though haha

@@minitom7772 i use straight 20w oil for motorcycle front suspension. Especially when cold I think it's better than engine oilt. SU oil is really thin, especially for tuned engines

Nice how you use the correct words, another youtuber i watch in the uk kept saying lifter non stop and i was like wtf is that turns out he ment a cam follower/tappet! So i had to correct him, i hate how people keep using murican words in the uk.

Jamie Taylor now that’s the million dollar question. I have a vision in terms of colour. The outside won’t differ much apart from being shinier really. But I’m in no rush and certainly can’t afford to do much quickly. So for now, I’ll keep chipping away at bits and enjoy it for what it is. Thanks mate 👍🏻
