Most of my neighbours think I'm a complete plonker driving my 1981 MiniVAN (!), but it has an Oselli built 1400cc lump (built 1982) with a fairly big cam (and the rest). It looks bog standard on the outside, but it goes a lot faster than I am brave enough to drive - at age 73. I've always had Minivans since passing my test, and I am guaranteed to get thumbs up / flash of lights / conversations at the traffic lights etc., loadsa fun every time I take it out.

One of my favourite, and most terrifying experiences in a car was when a friend, a keen kart racer, bought, engine swapped, modified, stiffened, retuned and dyno’d a Mini Cooper as his daily driver, and he took me out in it for a drive. It was astonishing. We went into corners at speeds that seemed impossible to take, but that car was nailed to the road. The experience was mind blowing. They’re special cars.

Who knew Chris Pratt could also build mini's😄. My first car 27 years ago was an antique gold 1976 Mini named "The beast", due to huge 34bhp 850cc engine. My mates used to say it was sponsored by Dulux (UK paint company) as you could never match the paint during repairs. Modded with arch extenders and set of 6"x10" Mamba racing alloys that I got for my 18th birthday second hand, spent a good week stripping and polishing the wheels. Loved that car, slow as hell but stuck like glue around the twistys and you could easily keep up with much faster cars on the back roads. I would have a Super Cooper, I think that is the nearest to a modern day Mini (a BMW is not a Mini). You could have a lot of fun in a Super Cooper on the twistys and still keep up on the motorways. I would love one with a bigger version of the Mamba wheels, a bit different to the Mini Lites that everyone uses. Great video Nicole 🙂

I owned a Triumph Spitfire 1500 for 10 yrs. & had a local Machine Shop & Speed Shop in the same Industrial Commercial Complex where my own Sign Shop was located in the 80's, modify the BL 1500cc TRACTOR ENGINE that Stock was about 65hp to where it would hold Redline in 4th gear at 90mph on the 401 on the way to TO Canada! A friend found a used 45DCOE Weber carb that was on an MGB. I mounted it on a CANON Intake Manifold & the exhaust exited thru a Pacesetter Header. The Machine Shop sent the Original Cam to Canadian Chrome in TO to be reground to better specs. & they did the usual things like a 3 Angle Valve Grind, etc. It turned a Gutless Car into something that was FUN to Drive & it would do "Burnouts" when you "Dumped the Clutch" in 1st Gear! 🤠

That car is small enough in form factor that it could be an entire kit sold as panels and parts for the DIY/ hobbyist. Soon these original old parts might become impossible to acquire and hopefully additive manufacturing can come to the rescue.

Different beatbox, 4 branch manifold, straight through exhaust, Weber 45 , Competition clutch, high cam , lower it , I remove the bonnet and the wings and put on a fibreglass front unit I think it was called a groundhog front, It would tilt forward from the window, It would not tick over below 1200 rpm . 135mph or thereabouts, And it won’t go a roundabouts as if it was on railway tracks, I am now 71 years young, And still enjoy high speed heavy metal music, The blues, I forgot to mention that I had Pontiac at the same time Norton commando 750, Bonneville 650, Rely wisp moped , I think it was called. I have watched a few of your tutorials on vehicles very impressed, And I believe you are a speed junkie. Drive safe, look forward to seeing more from your Chanel. When I was six years old at the end of the 70's my mum was given a British Leyland Mini, The floor was so rusted you had to wear wellies when it rained. She would literally press the accelerator through the floor. That car was utterly bonkers and she drove it like a lunatic down the single track country roads of our village. Eventually we got rid of it as it was far too dangerous for her to ferry all the kids about in. But boy what a memory. The smell, the feel, the sound. Your KZbin video, just blew me away. As exciting as the Minis that I tuned In to see you showcase was more about you that again, blew me away. Your excitement about the subject matter, just took me to another level. I can't get over your knowledge of the these cars and your excitement for the way they drive. I am 74 years old and and have been blessed to have owned many great cars in my lifetime. My first Mini a 1275 S at the age of 19, speaks volumes. I was a full fledge surfer at the time and as I looked back on it, what it must have looked like seeing four surfers in this red Mini Cooper (sitting on the ground) with four surfboards strapped to the roof going up and down the pacific coast highway looking for waves. When I wasn’t surfing I was driving it’s brains out up on Mulholland or Topanga Canyon to the point that I pulled the engine mount right out of the block. Many years later I bought a car in Geneva that is what the Mini Cooper grew up to be, a Renault R5 Turbo. Back then when the R5 first came (Series1) out you could only buy it in two colors. A Tomato Soup Red or a rather nice metallic Blue. As much as I would have liked to buy a Red one the Red was so ugly in person. After the first run of Renault R5 launched the R5 (Series 2) with a much better choice of colors. Everything I would have wanted the Mini to be and much more the R5 was. When I brought the car home to CA and federalized it, I drove around looking to race Corvettes. Stock for stock I could blow them off all day long. By the way when the Mini grew up (1980) and became the Renault R5 Turbo it was insane as to what it cost. I paid $32,500 in Geneva then shipped it to the US ($850.00 approximately by boat) and the real killer, the cost to Federalize ($7,500). But, my God it was worth every single dollar. Unfortunately, I only owned the car for about 3 years and didn’t drive it as much as I should have. I do have one unbelievably GREAT story about this car that it made the cost worth it. I sold it for $26,000 with the need for a new gas tank. These cars (especially the Series 1cars) are selling for well over $100,000. Hey, I’m so sorry to have gotten so far off base. But you inspired all manner of thoughts and the fun of you driving the Mini Cooper 1275 S. Ted

I grew up with Minis from the sixties onwards. I have to say I find it a little amusing when each subsequent generation thinks it's discovered the secret for the first time. Sorry but the Mini has always been brilliant. Oh and it was Alec not Isaac, Issigonis, by the way. Keep up the good work.

To think, it was a Greek who helped design an Iconic British car, that was so good an Italian called Enzo Ferrari himself liked them and owned two. Apparently one was donated by Alec himself as the two men greatly admired each other’s works and cars. ....the original Mini (not the new sacrilege) was truly a multicultural car 🤘

@@geodun well said...I knew about him and his car designs but learnt about the man himself and hia back ground when I read up about him/his life story back when I was in Uni (so over 25yrs ago). I'm not usually a Ferrari fan but the relationship Enzo had with Alec (sorry I should refer to the great man by his proper title - Sir Alexander) blew my mind as it was well known Enzo was not the easiest of men to get on with. 👍👍😊

Gary, we are the lucky ones. Though we had absolutely no idea at that time. For those of us who continue to suffer (suffer?) with the Petroleum desise, the Issigonis mini is a subconscious benchmark. I personally have only ever driven three cars that have provided me with top thrills per wheel. The mini was the first.

I’ve watched this episode 3 times now and love Nicole’s love for anything unusual. My first car was an 850 mini back in the early 70’s and I’ve since worked on and repaired dozens of them. Being a motorcyclist with a bike that’ll do over 300kph, I’d definitely go for the 500hp beast -The Type S Mini. Congrats Nicole, I love your work!

Here in Australia in the late 60's early 70's, we would hot up our minis and they would be called Flying Bricks. All on standard suspension but some had improved braking. I can only imagine what another motor and gearbox would feel like to drive. My last, stock standard mini was a van loved it, wish I had kept it. When I retired it , it had over 500,000 kms and was on it's third rebuilt motor.

I have a 1330cc A series in my mini. Makes about 90bhp, will idle at 1050rpm very smoothly and torque is already pretty good at 3.000 rpm. From 4.000 rpm it really "pulls", max power is around 6200 rpm and you can rev it to 7500rpm if you want (but really, revving above 7000 rpm is not that useful since the gearbox is close ratio and my FD is for B roads only, going highway speed in France means 5.000rpm in fourth). Well, that's really impressive what 90bhp do in a 600kgs car.

I have a 1380 turbo (200bhp) in a 500kg Mini :) six speed gearbox 11.2" discs with multi-piston caliper brakes, launch control and traction control all with a 25bhp NOS kit for cooling and anti lag, all on 245/45-13" road legal tyres but 500bhp ??? holy crap I wish the good old A series could output that much power :D
@TheThunderwars3 жыл бұрын
@@martinfidel7086 What the hell ? Where did you find a six speed that fits into an A series casing and doesn't explode under the torque of a turbo engine ?
@martinfidel70863 жыл бұрын
@@TheThunderwars They where made by JKD in the UK and the JKD case was bespoke to the 5 and 6 speed gear kits they produced, but even so before that it was on top of a 4 speed SCCR and with the correct parts they don't necessarily explode unless you just drop the clutch at 3k rpm with sticky tyres

I remember when I was stationed in England 40 years ago, Sergeant Craig Spahr and his little green monster Mini Cooper 1,000 cc that could actually hang with my built Toyota Celica GT, which could also hang with another sergeant friend's Z28 camaro. Love the mini 💕 I had a split windows with a push start button red colored in Europe. Drove through the Carpatian mountains all the way to the black see. In Romanian people stop us on the street and invited us to stay with them but we had to hide the car. (Was illegal to give rooms to foreigners back then) in Bulgaria people just eat up the car too. A police officer pulled us over just to look at it, and...cleaned up the battery from all the white junks. Nice people 👍 I can't believe me and my girlfriend took the car all the way to the black see with out any spare part or even an overview of the car to make dure everything all right. If anything happens to the car down there we out of luck. Not only is no parts or services but the Mini is not even existed. We were teenagers and we just enjoyed the trip.

Having owned a late-model Camaro SS, I appreciate the thrill of high horsepower, but also having owned many classic MGBs, including my current one, I appreciate the great balance of classic cars with just the right amount of power to do what they're supposed to do. So, I think I'd take the "Mini Super Classic" with the Honda motor. Bullet-proof, easy to drive, plenty of power for an under-2000 lb car, good throttle and steering response-and probably more affordable to buy and operate daily by a wide margin. Congrats to Tyler for building these, and to Nicole for bringing them to our attention with this delightful video.
