G'day and welcome back to Australia’s only Classic Mini KZbin channel.
On this episode, Tomo gets back to work on the front suspension of his Classic Mini. As he was having severe difficulty, he jumped on the blower and contacted Minisport about a spring compression tool in which arrived the following day!
Upon installation of the driver's side spring, all was going well until he removed the passenger side trumpet and with some force, found that disaster has struck with the adjuster for the trumpet. What happened exactly? Watch the episode and find out.

I have my motor out for a 30 over and some mods, then i was like well motors out guess i should drop the subframe and powder coat it. That led to full suspension rebuild with a full adjustable suspension makeover with red dot cones. so yes a lot easier with it off the car. Keep the great videos coming.

Awesome news mate. It’s very easy to get carried away when doing jobs like that. Although it’s preventative maintenance, you’ll have many more years to come with the drivability of that old girl before further work will be needed. Well done 👌🏼 Thanks for the feedback too

@@Tomostuneups well thank you. i have used some of your videos to learn how to do thing on my mini. Mine is a JDM 1993 cooper but converted to carb as the SPI part took a dump on the previous owner.

I really enjoyed watching the video tomo, thanks for sending me the link for the second part! Working on old vehicles is always interesting, you never know what you’re going to run into. I am about to tackle mine, wish me luck.

Did this myself just last week, actually that's how I found your channel while researching how to do it! (I thought there must be an easier way, turns out no, that is what is required.) My Mini ('68 panel van) still had the original trumpets and they had rotted out and broken in half, unfortunately I replaced them with the same style HiLos you just pulled out, but ah well, that is a problem for future me! (I wonder if I can sneak more grease down the thread in the middle of the cone to help seal the HiLo thread?) I was surprised by how difficult the job was, Mini's seem so incredibly brilliantly engineered sometimes, and other times just seem difficult for the sake of being difficult. I did manage to do the passenger side without moving the radiator or undoing the brake pipe though, there was just enough room to sneak the pin through the gap. Probably took 4 hours to do the whole job, both sides, start to finish over two days including packing up tools and cleaning up the mess. I have not bled the brakes yet though, as I will be ordering new hoses and replacement discs. Speaking of brakes, time for a 7.5" front disc conversion on yours? Minisport has all the gear...

Thanks for the comment mate, great to see my material is definitely useful. Sadly no easy way to do this, unless you remove the subframe and assemble it on the bench. One of my previous videos, it literally fell together with no effort whatsoever. When working on classic mini's, this is as rare as rocking horse sh*t! Yeah look, they're not the worst things ever, so long as you pump it full of grease to help deflect any water ingress, you "should" be okay. Id be pushing as much down there as possible to help elimate water ingress in the future. But yes, you're right, it's a future you problem loll Its not a hard job, its just very time consuming doing it, and in doing it, you find a lot of things that are in need of attention. As for disc brake conversion, hmm...maybe :)

Have done this recently was trying at times took me about 5 or 6 hours to do but I have been working on minis since I was an apprentice. Hardest part was getting the old Dunlop originals out.Just a little tip when undoing the spring compressor make sure when there still pressure on it not to turn them both together.Other wise it could shoot out and take your hand with it

Defintley a time consuming job, not hard just need a lot of time to spend putting it all together. Removal of the old cones was defintely not the joy of this job, with whats to come, it doesnt seem so bad haha! That's a very valid point, thanks for pointing that out mate.
