New subscriber here. Found you after a recommendation from a HRE IRL video when he spoke about dry decking and said watch you for a good explanation. Didn't disappoint. Thanks

Cheers Phil :) To anyone reading this, you can guess where i got my dry deck kit from! Much better value than some of the others on the market and Phil also did me a quality blanking plug when I moved my Arden heads around between engines and the dry deck kit wasn't required.

Much appreciated. I've always wondered how dry decking was done in a Mini, but never found the opportunity to ask. And it's all so logical! Cheers, mate. :-)

Wow.. I'm late in the game in just now finding your channel.. Awesome stuff dude.. I'm currently on the fence whether I want to dry deck or not.. I'm leaning that way, but now you have me questioning whether I plug, grub screw or use only a gasket to cover the holes.. And yes, Rich Allen is a great guy..

Thank you I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel. It’s only pretty small at the moment but I’m working on new stuff. Personally if it’s purely for the cooling benefits I’d just grub screw the block. That way it can easily be reversed if needed and costs peanuts to do.

Great vid - will be looking to do this to my race engine, what size grub screws required? Means I can order ahead of dismantle 😉

Im late to the video, but i cant seem to find an answer anywhere. On the adaptors which go into the head and the block, how are the adaptors sealed to the block? I was expecting to find these kits with o-rings, are the adaptors pressed into the head? Theres obviously something im missing, as surely it would leak without any kind of sealing. Also, great informative video 👍
@TurboMinicom7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. They need to be sealed in to both the head and block. I personally use Loctite Multi gasket.
@LoneStarMini3 жыл бұрын
Phil… when you drill up for the hose fittings, do you have to clock the fittings on both the head and block for best location of fasteners?
@TurboMinicom3 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy. Sorry I’ve only just seen your question. On the block it will depend if you’re still using both bolts on the engine steady, you’ll have to clock the adaptor bolt holes to avoid this.

Any advantage to semi dry decking by just installing grub screws around the #1 cylinder?
@TurboMinicom2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean It should help push more coolant further along the head/block to aid cooling on those cylinders. Though it’s not a method I’ve used myself.
@adarkmind Жыл бұрын
Does this fit with the crank case breather and enginemount?
@TurboMinicom Жыл бұрын
Hi. You can retain the crank case breather. You’ll have adapt the take off/engine mount if you want to use the front bolt to retain it.

hi, will be a benefit for the 1275h standard engine?
@TurboMinicom Жыл бұрын
It’s not something that’s necessary on a standard engine. Providing the cooling system is in good order it’ll be more than adequate.

If I dry deck, can I still use the heater take off on top of the cylinder head? So I can get heat inside the car. Great channel btw 👍
@TurboMinicom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! You could, but it will reduce some of the water flow back across the head, so ideally I’d do without the heater if possible.
