Lovely to watch a father & son team working together. Clearly he can show you a thing or two on the fashion front too "BillaBong Pops". I recall back in the 80s when I had my first Mini, keeping the rust at bay was a nightmare even then and that was 40 years ago! Love your attention to detail. Keep up the excellent work boys!

Hi! Thank you very much for that 👍👍 Haha he just turned 80 last week too, he likes to stay young. Wow 40 years ago, that’s a long time ago, I don’t think we’ll be ever taking this one out in the rain haha. Cheers 👍👍

I think there has been a lot of positivety because you are doing it properly. I was going to mention "Belt and Braces" but forget the belt, more than enough braces. Excellent job. I have a feeling this Mini will be finished before Binky!

You fellows deserve every bit of praise, you're restoring an important piece of history, and doing it exactly as it should be done, the little dear will be better than factory after you've both worked your magic. My brother did a ground up rebuild on an old 850 with sliding windows, converting it in the process to a Morris Cooper S replica, repowering it with a salvaged 1275 Cooper S unit, even going so far as to carefully mark and cut a hole on the right-hand hip to add the second fuel tank... and installed the later model windup doors of course. Subscribed.

HI! Thank you very much for watching and subscribing 👍👍 Really appreciate your comment. I’d really like to do the same and have the two tank filler necks on either side to replicate the Cooper S like your brother did. Thanks again.

@@upbuild4397 My father was the sales manager at a BMC dealership in Melbourne AU in the 60s, I more or less grew up with Austins, Morrisses, and MGBs, dad would bring various cars home and take mum and the boys for drives; my favourite was always the brand new Cooper S (even above the MGB) dad brought home one night, and took us for a rip, I was about 11 or 12 at the time, boys never forget stuff like that, and I suppose that was what inspired my brother to do his magic on the old 850 in the 70s, after dad had passed away. I will be watching your work with great interest.

Hi, I also remember, if you ever see a cooper with a vinyl roof and a small zip in the roof lining, the mini was most likely a ex-Merseyside police car. The vinyl roof was to cover the hole for the blue light. Regards Steve

I've become hooked on your videos! Great work, and I think you will rival the Binky project for most amount of metal replaced on a shell by the time you're done. :) There's something tremendously satisfying about seeing manky old rusty metal removed and replaced with new. It gives me a cosy warm fuzzy feeling which sounds weird but I doubt I'm alone...

In the 70s and 80s my dad (also a Geordie) and I were the fellas who stuck sill over sill on our rot-box family Mini to get it through the MOT every year. I was a nine year old lad pushing down with a bar against a bit of plate while me dad brazed it on with an old buzz-box welder. Times change eh?

This is how it's done properly people should take note. Question I have just had a restoration done and rear wheel on one side is sticking out 8/10mm further than the other. One of the shocks is not straight at the bottom. Brand new floor,subframes and parts any ideas lads.
@upbuild4397
@upbuild4397 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you 👍👍 I’m not sure on the miss alignment issue as everything is new, I’ll ask my dad if he has any idea. I’d maybe start by jacking the car up and get it nice and level on some axle stand, then with the wheels off you could do some measurements to see if anything shows up.
@stevewhaley997

Hi, Will you be putting a round hole in the back seat panel. When they made the early mini,s, I think they manufacture them with a round tube rounding back to front. Then after the wheel were fit, they covered the hole up with a round panel on the rear seat panel and one behind the clock on the bulk head panel. I remember seeing a mini mounted this way similar to your frame, so the shell could be spun around. Regards Steve

Hi! To you at the other side of the world haha 👍 we’re mostly self taught, my dad just turned 80 couple of days ago, so as you can imagine he had a lot of time to build the skills and pass them onto me. My dad mainly worked in car mechanics and heavy plant fitting. We’re having great fun on the Mini project though. Thanks for watching 👍👍

Excellent progress and very enjoyable watching, Just one question how do you keep the neighbours happy ?

You'll no doubt hear but I for one would love neighbours like these - they don't seem to cause any annoyance at all to me !

Hi! Thank you very much 👍👍 The neighbours are really good, they quite like stopping for a chat and watching the progress, we’re always very respectful too, not working too late or making too much continuous noise.

Love the jig/datum thingy. Was there a reason you didn't just use the subframe as a jig and reference it from the other side?

Hi! Thank you very much! The main reason is just that we felt it would be more accurate and solid with the little jig welded on. 👍 👍

its allmost like you only use the original body to be able to place the new panels in theire right place , doesnt seem to be mush left of the original sheetmetal when youre done with it man the rust on it , its like it was laying on the bottom of a lake for the past 3 years or so

It’s amazing how much it rusted, most of it was fairly well hidden too. Yeah your right about not much original left, probably just the roof and the bulkhead haha 👍👍

Even though it's small there is plenty of work , is it hard to find a rust free mini in england , or you just wanted a challenge

Hi! Thank you 👍👍 yeah they do seam to attract the rust, even when they look solid there’s so many places the rust hides, plus there getting quite old now. We really wanted the challenges, we’re really enjoying it too. 👍

Could you rename your titles to p1, p2, p3, p4 etc... it's confusing to watch them in chronological order. More so for people like me who subscribed yesterday.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback 👍 That’s a good point, I’ve been considering doing that but no one had mentioned it, so I left it. I may still do it, but it can be trick because i can affect the analytics. I have a playlist for the Mini were you can watch in date order if it helps. Cheers
