I only started watching the other day but you have me hooked Tom. I really want to start my own resto project. I have an eye on a 1980 clubman gt. Needs a lot of work but I would definitely do it. Great video keep them coming fella

Just found your videos tonight - mini shell is sitting there in fresh paint, sub-frames just back from blasting and painting, time to start assembling. Located in Canada a bit east of Toronto, and doing a father & son project. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos, I can see lots of the questions that have been floating in my head are answered.... now time to head back to the first video and watch them all. Cheers!

I kept all the brake pipe that came off mine so that I could use it as a template to form the new pipes because they have to be a pretty similar shape so they don't foul anything when the engine and other parts are all back in the car. I never found that I had to use the pipe bender before, much easier and quicker by hand (carefully not to over bend). Cars coming together nicely though, looking forward to the engine going in and keep that pipe out of the vice, it crushes too easy

Doing a great job. You might find doing up brake lines easier if you have a flar spanner, which looks like a single hex ring spanner with a slot cut out of it. Should be avaliable from good tool suppliers...lol

Gavin Ivers thanks Gavin! I’ll definitley order one👌🏻

Hey buddy there are two kinds of brake line fittings/unions. You have the wrong ones for the brake line flares your usings. The ones your looking for have an inward taper and are threaded right to the end.... Love the work keep it up.
@pain250x7 жыл бұрын
So i watched you vidoe once more and it is hard to tell but i think you have the right fittings but are making the wrong kind of Flair.... Take a look at the line you move from left to right and see if they look the same

Another great vid! the chopping / edit in fast forward was a bit weird, I couldn't focus! Ha! Is that copper line? In Aus, we can't use copper lines, they reckon they can crack..... I like Cunifer line, Cu Ni Fe Copper Nickel Iron alloy, doesn't rust or crack. As others have said there ae two types of flare, cone type and double like you were making. Fitting internals will show what you need. Keep up the good work Mr Shorrock ..... How cool is that, named after a supercharger :) ! !
@grahaminaus7 жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell copper is ok in UK, but there is talk of it work hardening over time. www.nsra.org.uk/newforum/showthread.php?13436-Kunifer-vs-Copper Cunifer or Kunifer available here, can be a bit harder to work / bend / flare :) www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/coppernickel-brake-pipe-316

Top man! I’m going to correct this in the next episode! 👌🏻 how ever just goes to show I’ve made a mistake and I’ve instantly learnt from It👌🏻 being named after a supercharger means it was destiny for me to own a mini 😉😂

Assuming that you've not already put the engine in, try and trial fit as many bits as possible to the engine before it goes in, even if you have to take most of it back off again when you put the engine in. Might save you a bit of faffing about in tight spaces wondering why something doesn't fit or line up!
@TomShorrock7 жыл бұрын

your flares are wrong you need a different tool to make a dome flare you need to look into the hole and see if it has a counter sink or a dome that way you can flare the pipe to suit also the correct way to flare pipes is to make it dome first and dont remove the pipe from the tool then use another die to make the concaved flare
@TomShorrock7 жыл бұрын
