Classic Otis Series 1 Traction Elevators at The Dayton House Resort, South Tower, Myrtle Beach, SC

These elevators are located in the South Tower, which like the North Tower, was built in the 80s, and has Otis Series 1 Elevators, with the Suites Tower being built in the Late 90s/Early 2000s, and the West Building and Central Tower (with the Otis Lexan) being the oldest. This building was recently renovated last year, however these elevators remain original and as is. That all being said though, not all of the buildings are renovated yet, and these could get modded when the whole resort is renovated, let's just hope that doesn't happen!!!
This is just a basic, albeit very nice Older Otis Series 1 Traction elevator system, that is in pretty good shape aside from a few scratches on the cabs, doors and indicators, but otherwise this system is in EXCELLENT Shape, is very smooth and hopefully these don't get modded!!! The fixtures are also in pretty good shape, and the door makes an interesting rattling noise when opening on on G! Also, just for reference, yes these are Relay Controlled judging by the noises these make, but Elevonic 401s use Motor Generator sets as well, but they sound totally different than the ones on these. The motors sound pretty interesting on the top floor too, and I LOVE the painted doors, especially the BRIGHT ORANGE/RED ones in lobby!!!!
Overall, just a VERY NICE Relay Controlled Older Otis Series 1 Traction System with a Good Amount of Character and Classic Leveling, and I hope it NEVER gets modernized!!!

My guess is the resort re-printed capacity plates where the ink wore off. Funny that they also typed out OTIS. Hey, can't complain.

I never thought any series one was on generators i absolutely hear them .was the series one a mod?

No. This building was built in the 80s and this is Older Series 1 which was made from 1981-1993, so these are indeed original. And I've been on several Series 1s with Motor Generators actually. DC Machines with MG Sets were actually still pretty common up until the Early to Mid 2000s, and now most newer elevators use AC Gearless Machines or DC Machines with most efficient DC Drives as opposed to Generators. (Although new DC machine elevators are rare, most of these elevators using the DC Drives are modded elevators which the DC Motors were kept)

@@FloridianElevators I've heard of the Otis Elevonic 401's from the 1980's interesting DC traction machines with MG sets were still common up till early 2000, I though in the 80's more were moving towards 2 speed AC Lenard Control, since VFVV drives did not come on the market till some 20 years later along with MRL's. It makes sense with modded elevators changing from MG set to DC drives especially when the original DC traction machine is still in good condition and/or is too large to move as the case with many older Otis gear-less machines. Smith Tower ought to have left the original Otis gear-less machines and updated to DC drive. Still going 104 years later. The downside with MG sets is if the timer wears out, might never cycle off and is running all the time, very costly electric bill.

All of the Smith Tower's machines have been replaced with Thyssenkrupp Momentum AC Gearless Machines, with the exception of Car 7's motor which they kept the Otis DC Machine but put new TK DC Drives in.

@@FloridianElevators Yes I did read one of the elevators Car #7 was being preserved glad they retained the original DC traction machine, updated to DC Drive.
