PRISTINE 60s Otis Lexan Traction Elevator at The Dayton House Resort Central Tower, Myrtle Beach, SC

Out of the Major Beach Resorts I filmed at here in Myrtle Beach, this one was one of my favorites. All of the buildings here on this property have had their exterior facades redone in recent years, and this building, the Suites Tower and the South Tower have all been totally renovated, and the West Building is currently being redone as we speak. Despite this, each elevator here remains TOTALLY ORIGINAL, and of course you all know I love that!!! In addition to that, ALL of the elevators here are in EXCELLENT Shape, which isn't something that can be said about many elevators in Myrtle Beach....
This elevator, out of all of the ones on this property was BY FAR my favorite!! This BEAUTIFUL, ORIGINAL 1st Generation Otis Lexan with Surface Mountain Call Stations, that FLIES for 5 FLOORS, has a Curved Door Frame, and is nearly in MINT CONDITION aside from the paneling surrounding the COP having a little bit of scuffing and chipped paint on it!!! Myrtle Beach has LOTS of Otis Lexan Elevators, but out of all of them, this, The Montego Inn and the North Shore were my Favorites as they are in the best condition and were the fastest of them!!!! The buttons on this thing are in such GOOD SHAPE that the Halos are CRYSTAL CLEAR, and they all light up nice and brightly!!! The Cab was recently redone since patricknedz's video of this in 2015, but otherwise this elevator is TOTALLY ORIGINAL from the Late 60s/Very Early 70s with it's ORIGINAL Motor, Controller, Doors and Doortrack, and BEAUTIFUL, ORIGINAL Classic Lexan fixtures!!! It also runs EXCELLENTLY and FLIES for 5 floors!!! When leveling on 5, it does over level a bit and Classic Level back on to 5, and the door does squeak a bit, but it otherwise runs great and this is just part of the character!!!!
This is not the oldest tower at the Resort, but this is the oldest original elevator on the property. The hotel opened in 1960 and Otis Lexan wasn't a thing till 1964, and this isn't a mod in anyway, so this isn't the original tower. I believe this was built in 1969-1970 but not sure. The original tower was either demolished, and if not, it may have been the West Building which had an Otis with GAL, but if that's the case, the elevator was modded. Also, that tower was shut for renovations. But who cares??? ORIGINAL VINTAGE Elevators like this are better anyways!!!!
I really hope this doesn't get modernized either, however, all of the towers including this one have been renovated inside and out, with the exception of the West Building which was shut for renovations, and the North Tower awaits its turn. Having seen several places mod their elevators a few years after renovating, I REALLY HOPE this place doesn't mod its elevators, ESPECIALLY this one as most hotels on the Myrtle Beach strip have modded their Otis Lexans and Older Series 1s, and this elevator is in EXCELLENT Condition considering it's age and being on a beach hotel, but HOPEFULLY the new cab and the fact this thing runs so well is a sign this thing is here to stay for MANY more years to come!!!
That all being said, enjoy the video, of this AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, TOTALLY ORIGINAL 1st Generation Otis Lexan, filled with a TON of Character, that is in MINT CONDITION, that is SUPER FAST for 5 floors!!!! :)
