This was filmed at the Greyson's Mansion in Beverly Hills. I am a member. I did not know that the swimming pool was that deep. One could seriously be injured falling in there. Now I understand why they filled it in. This mansion has a bowling alley and a small concert room. I know every inch of this place and was amazed to see it in this old space movie. They made a ton of movies on this property.

@kisserofdogs32186 жыл бұрын
That's correct. That's why I always say horror/thriller type movies like always have the dumbest actors and actresses in them. They always go looking for whatever went bump in the night and they go alone and they always fall when trying to run away. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Haha!!
@edwardmalc14736 жыл бұрын
@@kisserofdogs3218 Pam, You know that it's not the actors, it's the characters they play. The script dictates their actions. It is the stupid actions that characters do, to ramp up the tension that irritates us & force us to rant or scream at the screen. I hate it when I watch a crime thriller, zombie or vampire movie and characters split up, use a weapon to kill someone; then put it down only to need a weapon again, shortly after. Or when horror lore informs us to shoot zombies in the head, vampires in the heart (with silver bullets or wooden stakes). But the characters don't do that, they just stand & gape or shoot and miss, or whatever. You know what I mean! It's fun really. Still annoying though..... Given that this is pre-cgi & relatively new in space invader terms it is quite good. The locations are amazing, so spatial. The rover was very 50's in design. I wonder what all the antennae were supposed to do? Maybe it was male.........
@kisserofdogs32186 жыл бұрын

Also, don't be the token black guy, gay guy, or silly screaming girl (usually scantily clad). They are almost always among the first to go. And when the bad thing enters the room, standing and screaming is not really the best defense.

This movie is just so creepy. There is nothing particularly 'unworldly' or 'Martian' about what they are experiencing. It's more like a haunting or a reality shifting. Reminds me of another film from the same era, _The Haunting._ Like that film, there is a psychologization of the horror - it all seems to be taking place within the mind of each character rather than an external reality, and you are never quite sure where the menace resides - within or without. I found it to be very effective. Also, the fact that they filmed it at Greystone Mansion a known haunted house. I don't know if the producers did this to extract better performances, or it just was a practical consideration, but it just adds to the overall creepiness and uncanniness....

I am guessing those where the "earthlings" burnt at the bottom of the empty pool at the end, and the "martians" are the ones driving away in the car.

Great 👍🏾. All of it . Everything, music, the “Noir” effect, yes the effect. Location Location Location! Acting brilliant down to the kids and co worker stopping by and becoming a casualty. Rocky left the tree up, kids contribution to salvaging parents marriage. Great vintage with plenty patina to go around. Absolutely loved all elements that went into this movie.

One minute in and there's a 'rover' investigating, just like we now have rovers on Mars. It's amazing the thought process and technology skills in 1963!! It is now 2018.
