I can see why he was a jets bust now. The offensive line was stellar, they opened holes my grandma could run through. Lack of breakaway speed, lacks strength (DBs tackled him easily). He's not a north/south runner but a cutback. Cutbacks need a great offensive line...this is really a highlight of the offensive line. Also, I have a feeling that the owner really wanted him and made the gym draft him.

You hit the nail on the head. I think that he did have breakaway speed before his injury (I found some more highlights from his earlier games with DJ Dozier and the dude was fast) and his hands weren't terrible. But he did lack strength. After the knee injury, I think that he would've made a decent 3rd down back for a decade, but that's not what happened.

There are a number of runs through wide-open holes that a great RB would have taken much farther.

Hands down my favorite RB when you’re was a kid. I still have a pic of me holding a football that says #32 Thomas that I wrote with a sharpie.

Because this video sucks. There was a lot of footage that I could've used that had long touchdowns. Instead, all this video contains are short runs.

Had a pretty good start to his Jets career, then had a costly fumble vs Chicago on MNF in 1991 and it seemed to be all downhill from there, turned into a bust.

xNiqhtHD Well, I loved watching your dad as a kid. I was a RB in HS when he was at Penn State & he was one of the best RBs I've ever seen at that time. So sorry about his knee injury, if it wasn't for that, I believe he would have went on to be an NFL Hall of Famer.

Jimmy and Jerry traded up in the draft to take Thomas but the Jest jumped ahead of them and took Thomas. Next on Jimmy's board was Emmitt. Which is why Dallas ended up with Smith. I didn't think Thomas was that good. I saw Emmitt a lot and he was exceptional at finding holes and had a good burst and great balance. IDK what everyone saw in Thomas. He was a good back with a great Oline. But his open field moves were slow and he didn't get through holes very fast. You see this a lot from back then with northern players. They were hyped up by the media so much because of where they played. There's always been this biasedness with the media regarding northern players and college's. That's why there were more NC's from the north back then. Since teams have had to actually play for the NC, there's been few that have won it. Ohio State won twice since the BCS and that's about it. Since the BCS southern teams have dominated college football. Something they would have been doing if there was a playoff system back when Thomas played.
