The dark blue L-reg 2500 estate is just stunning! Exactly my kind of car, stylish, practical and powered by six cylinder goodness.

Please note that the GT6 was never fitted with the smaller 1596cc engine, ALL GT6 cars got the 2-Litre engine

Thank you again for bringing back fabulous memories I had some amazing Triumphs in the 70s This is in Oz. without any doubt and right down to day the fastest car I have driven point to point and I am talking 1100 miles in about 13 and half hours sitting over 100mph most of the way Whyalla to Wollongong. SA to NSW I won a bet I said in the evening before I set off I will see you about nine in the morning to guys taking the plane back from the job, They were astonished when I knocked on their door, That 2.5 PI was slightly hot revved and revved but it handled so amazingly well it was astonishing. I did 100,000 miles in three years in this amazingly balanced vehicle travelling to jobs { building furnaces. Up and down Australia, I doubt if the records I set between Brisbane and Sydney will ever be beaten, It also saved my and my kids life when a big heavy truck plowed into the back and the way the car was buiilt. Boot just bent up. You can have no idea absolutely flat out in the night, In those days there were fewer cars and you could out chase the Cops in big heavy boggy Chryslers which I did between Gunning and the ACT. Left em for dead on the bends and straight out top speed.. Had a few Triumphs but none beat the first one, I did all my own mechanical work. And you have just brought it all back. By the way the best car they ever made in Oz is the Leyland P76 V8 regardless what Aussies say they are just jealous. Those were the days, I have slowed down fines get a bit much. Regards.

My Dad had a Vitesse 2 litre. Lovely smooth, effortless straight 6 engine with a gorgeous engine note under acceleration. Sadly my last view of the car was as a write-off in a scrapyard after Dad involuntarily explored the dreaded "tuck under" on a sharp bend.

Ooo yes I remember the wayward rear end on my first Spitfire, ok if you were expecting it and quite "exciting"

II owned an H reg 1360, nice car, it had a handbrake with a combination lock, (you had to turn dials to release it, also a CD badge on the back! Later a Dolomite Sprint R reg. V heavy clutch and I had to have the cylinder heard repaired (it cracked) and resurfaced (cf the Stag. V well upholstered but the alloy wheels had a habit of peeling and corroding. Next stop a TR6

I'd forgotten about the lockable handbrake buttons, I assume they were sold by Halfords or similar

In the 70s I worked in a tyre depot not far from the MIRA site near Hinckley and the test drivers used to come in for stuff when driving test cars. One day a guy came in with a left hand drive Dolomite with no badges on it. I asked him what was special about it and he said that it was going to be called the Dolomite 135 as it was 135BHP. I asked him what it was like, and he said that it was far too powerful for the brakes and handling, in his words 'f***ing dangerous! I later learned that they de-tuned it to something like 127 or 129BHP, improved the brakes and handling and called it the Dolomite Sprint. The one in your photo with the '135' badges was possibly a pre-production car.
