Talking Pictures recently screened the 1970s/80s drama series Enemy At The Door that was made by LWT for ITV.

Im going to have to check this out, as this seems right up my alley! Just wished they showed more classic kids and family shows. Id kill to watch shows like Button Moon, Metal Mickey, The Raggy Dolls, Grotbags etc! 😊

My ideal use for Retro TV is special multi-hour blocks of shows accompanied by recreated presentation like what the BBC sometimes do. Of course, I wouldn't have them as daily blocks as that would probably cause burnout or loss of the novelty, mainly just for anniversaries or for tributing celebrities (Well, maybe except for the disgraced ones. LOL)

In america they launched something called metv toons which plays old cartoons and gives historical facts about voice actors cartoons etc. I would personally love this as it would boost younger demographics watching TV again and definitely be a nice thing for cartoon buffs like me I also think a problem televsion has is lack of original comedy or original comedy that's actually funny they're is a lot of underground comedy that would be perfect for uk television but they would never bring it over I think rewind tv is incredible and the motto behind it

Any one noticed BBC4 is showing Call My Bluff from 1976? A forerunner of Would ILie to You, but with pipe and cigarette smoking. Joanna Lumley was on it. Robert Robison is very entertaining , Stephen Fry regularly impersonates him.

Even the 90s had some great shows back when I grew up :) Like you, I'm not a fan of Love Island or any version of Big Brother - absolutely despise those shows - U&Drama is a great channel where you can find old TV dramas and comedies from the 80s and 90s :)

Drama is awful for chopping bits out of shows to make the adverts fit. Gave up watching it after they ruined several episodes of New Tricks.

Would be good if there was a tv channel showing the yesteryear cartoons and children's cartoon and programmes from the 70,80,90's that used to be on bbc1 g itv when they had the children's programmes on when we finished school like thundercats, childrens ward,he man, grange hill etc etc

The golden age of television is definitely now. The quality of productions is so much higher, choice is so much more varied, services are a lot more competitive so out-doing each other has never been so important. I dont understand why people think the 70/80s even 90s were the golden age. I think it's just silly nostalgia kicking in.

Forces tv used to have a lot of classic sitcoms such as Never The Twain. Talking Pictures also has old British dramas. Forces tv also had some American classics that I also really enjoyed. Shows such as C.H.I.P.S., The A Team and The Dukes Of Hazard. The Equalizer was a fantastic espionage thriller series that I watched religiously every night on Forces tv.

I've spent the afternoon retuning donated TVs (old Sony Bravias made 2009-11, a caravan park has closed and we've got their old stuff). I did 20 in 3-and-a-half hours. Good to know there'll be something worth retuning an old TV for.

I think the reason why retro classic TV programmes are having a comeback (they've always been popular and loved) is because for people that watch it reminds of happy memories. For example for me, i enjoy watching EastEnders 2008-2011 on BBC iPlayer because it reminds of being a toddler again even though I'd never seen some of those episodes and i would've seen clips of those thanks to modern technology like KZbin.

Reshowing Drop The Dead Donkey was initially a surprise to me as l though it'd be too much of its time. Then again, it's for those of use who remember the comedy and the political and cultural topics surrounding it. I saw the stage show earlier this year and the theatre was packed. So l guess there is still a market amongst it's fans.

I think the best channel is That's TV. They managed to re-air The Benny Hill Show after decades (despite incorrectly airing the American Syndicated half hours instead of the original Thames specials) and Kenny Everett's shows not having been seen in the UK since Granada Plus (despite regular repeats worldwide). Benny even made front page news with his return to TV, despite being dead for 30 years!

Are these older TV shows going to have to come with trigger warnings I wonder? Because I could name a few shows from the 60s and 70s that would now be considered sexist, racist and not PC. I would love to see 60s and 70s editions of Jeux Sans Frontieres back on TV. Mind you the commentary would have to be replaced. Saw a 60s edition on KZbin a while back with David Vine but it had a German commentary.

A few years back I watched a few episodes of Harry Enfield's Television Programme on That's TV. They would temporary place a message in the upper left hand corner of the screen, saying something like "This programme features content that would be considered unacceptable by today's standards" A good idea I thought, considering they were showing Harry Enfield of all things! There's one sketch in particular where he plays a stereotypical yorkshireman at a business meeting. First thing he does? Points his finger at a black person, telling him "You'll never play for Yorkshire!" 😮
