Classic Vibe Tele: New Pickups & New Owner

I bought this guitar back in the summer time, and put new pickups in it. I then ended up giving the guitar to a family friend who just started playing guitar. He dad was a bigtime guitar player his entire life and recently passed away. When she couldn't get his electric guitar, I knew I had to give her one and since he played a Telecaster, I knew it had to be this one. So with the blessing of my wife, I gave it to her. I have too many guitars anyway;-) ALSO - IF YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT HER, I'LL BAN YOU. I ban no-one ever for anything, but don't you dare talk shit about my friend:-)

That's funny , a young man I know , taking music in collage , needed a guitar and I gave him an Ibanez acoustic to learn on. This is how to keep others interested in guitar. Not criticize , encourage , and sometimes supply an instrument when nessary. I'm sure we all have so thing around we could spare . Thanks for the video ,

Very kind of you to give this to her. I just put Fralin Blues Special pups and a Fralin control plate in my CV Tele and it's incredibly good now. I just gave an acoustic to my brother trying to encourage him to play.

I have a Butterscotch Blonde 50s CV Tele. The stock pickups are excellent, as you’d expect with them being Toneriders.

I bought a used one 250. installed Custom Shop Nocasters Alnico III"s, a quality replacement plate with CTS pots and a 4 way switch. I love it. Sounds awesome. The 4 way requires lifting the ground on the neck pickup and soldering skills. I also have a 50"s CV Strat, and it's great, but I want to get pickups for it. However, I am seriously considering buying a used US strat and selling the CV. I like it and I'm kind of attached to it, but like you say, do I want spend a lot of money on the CV or buy a used US made one?

I have a CV 50s squier. I liked the pickups fine, but not the neck. It was too skinny for me. The mod I made was a Fender 51 U shape neck. It’s really fat all the way up, with the narrow tall frets. New brass saddles too. Now I love it. I’ve considered pickups but the ones in mine are good. Maybe someday. Great video!

Is there really that big of a difference in the pickups? I can imagine there might be, I guess. I have a couple semi hollow body Ibanez which I know would sound better with new pickups, but it looks way too complicated for me. That Tele looks super easy. Thanks for posting.

Dang your prices are expensive in Canada , i got two CTS pots for $10, fender pick up selector for $11 and they fit on the plate with no problem. I believe the Classic Vibe has American specs, I also bought a roll of 1in x 66ft roll of copper tape to shield both my Classic Vibe jazz and Tele for $9 on Amazon. I put a Guitar Fetish Little Puncher for $30 in my bridge because i play punk music and i wanted that humbucker sound. Also you are absolutely right about liking to do upgrades and working on guitars it almost addictive and it's also kind of sad once you are done with the mods and can't wait till the next 👍. Haha i just heard you thought it was a tragedy to put a hot rail which is what the little puncher is 😂.

I heard that Squier CVC 60s Telecasters use Tonerider pickups. Which type? Are there different Toneriders used in Chinese and Indonesian (2019+) model?

@@jurajcagan5874 Yes, Tonerider has a contract with Squier/Fender I have tried to cross check these pickups with anything they sell and I have come up short. The stock pickups are just okay. I put Fender Noiseless Tele 3's in mine and it sings. It has turned into one of my top guitars and I have Music Man Ernie Ball Albert Lee Signature edition and Heritage guitars. It just about stands up to that. I don't know what the new models are using as far at fretboard, but the older ones from China had rosewood. Pretty nice neck for sure.

I used custom pickups from tumapickups.com for all my guitars so far and I am more than happy eith them, so it looks like I will go for Tuma custom tele pups, cause their Strat custom sing like hell! :)

Put the original classic fender bridge (with brass barrels) on this guitar und you will be fine.. the squier pickups are great!

I have 2 CV 50s..the 1st I've kept stock Alnico 5 pups, that are great ! #2 was used modded with No-casters pups, and locking tunners, $300 used. Total for 2 great !! Teles $700 beat that !!

Im afraid to say the Squire classic vibe 50s tele line has been tweaked un the pickup department, the website now says alnico 5 not 3 for the vintage blonde, gone are the toneriders i think, and are likly wound in the cort factory useing fenders specs.😣 having said, the cort pickups are usually made well, on the standard line anyhoo, so love em or not,,,, "its what it is".

@@malcolmhardwick4258 Certainly on the CV Thinline (which have Alnico V PuPs similar to this CVC); the neck PuP is very good. To anyone that has not had the opportunity to compare different PuPs in the same guitar, the stock PuPs are great, no real need to change them incurring significant costs. However, having bought a used CV Thinline that already had been upgraded with Seymour Duncan Antiquity PuPs, then subsequently acquiring a second used CV Thinline (for alternate tuning), I can categorically state that the Antiquity PuPs are a genuine improvement - but they should be for the price! On the second guitar, I can live with the stock neck PuP (less output/lower resistance than the SD Antiquity), but while the stock bridge PuP was great clean, it was not so good driven. The SD Antiquity '55 Tele bridge is a worthwhile upgrade, being a '55 type it is not particularly high output, but it sounds superb clean and driven. If you find one used buy it - fast!

Pure waste of time and money replacing pickups,the originals are fine.Tuners are also fine.Most tuning problems usually occur because strings aren't 'worked in' when new and they keep stretching when bends are done.Most of the mods I ever did to my CV Custom Tele were for aesthetic appeal - a tortoiseshell pick guard,heavier dome knobs,brass saddles,Graphtech string trees and Schaller strap locks.
