Cheaper guitars are more fun. The standards are higher than ever, so why not. Having also dallied with the bass, I have an hankering for the Squier 60's Classic Vibe pairing of Precision bass and Custom Tele, both in sunburst. The Esquire was definitely Barrett sounding, as it should be of course, with the Fender amp a big help.

You can't really go wrong with a Classic Vibe guitar - I really rate them. My Vintage Modified Jaguar is probably my favourite out of all my guitars. It plays _so_ beautifully! I have been SERIOUSLY tempted by a great many of the CVs over the years - this one included - but ya know, a fella's only got _so_ much space! 😉

I got one of these in 2019 when they were an FSR edition at Anderton's. I loved it straight away, but I later decided to change the pickup to a Bare Knuckle Flat 50, and that had an amazing effect: Beauty and the Beast in one guitar. It took away a little of the 'ice-pick' treble and made it superbly flexible. Brilliant guitar.

I just bought a Butterscotch Blonde CV Esquire over the weekend at a nearby music store. The second I picked it up I knew we were destined to be together. The feel and tone of the guitar are truly incredible for the price. I had tried lots of Teles in stores but for some reason they never really clicked for me until I heard the roadhouse twang of the Esquire. It makes me want to get the entire Classic Vibe series. Great review, I look forward to checking out your other ones.

Got a first guitar after Christmas, it has a single bridge H and a volume knob. I find that the limitation lets me (forces me) to actually play and save time from getting lost in manipulating the tone. Limitations are a must in music. Look at 100 oscillator software synthesizers, spending more time making a sound that recording something.

Having been a jumbo fret guy for probably 30 of the 40 years I've been playing guitars with anything else something I really can't deal with. This means I have to like the guitar enough to spend the money to have jumbos put on. I've done it many times BTW. I really like this guitar too!

I hope you Kept that 1. Totally Sensational! I've got 3, all Mexican, Teles + a couple of other cheap brands. Always planned to remove the neck p'up on 1 of them & buy a Esquire guard & P'up. Found out that if I buy a Esquire scratch plate, I can hide the neck p'up, under the guard. The 1 I have in mind, is a really beat up, black / maple 2011 MX 60th anniversary. I think I'll try it out on a cheap 1 1st. Just to see if it sounds good.

Yeah, I got one of these recently thinking I'd upgrade the neck with something chunkier. But I love the guitar and there's nothing wrong with the neck, so now I'm finding it's hard to justify the additional expense! Also, I find the variations on the possible wiring schemes with the 3 way selector really intriguing.

Just goes to show one doesn’t have to spend a great deal of money to get a lovely looking and sounding guitar these days. In my day inexpensive guitars were 💩. The very first Les Paul style guitar I bought was actually made of plywood. It cost £50 which was equivalent to a months wages. Great review by the way. You deserve more subscribers. A genuine review of something most people could afford to buy,,a breath of fresh air instead of finding faults and promoting expensive guitars. (Andertons). People showing off how good they can play doesn’t really equate to an in depth review of an instrument or gear in my opinion.

Here’s the thing, (we) guitar players are really paranoid about our guitars. It’s all about brands, high end, “beginner guitars”, where it’s made (like it really matters). Then some experienced player or pro shows up and says “this squire BULLET is just fine, and they play gigs with it and sound exactly the same. All they need is a setup, and a good set of hands. Connected to good effects and amps, they sound great. They look great. Feel great. Nobody can pass the blindfolded test. Especially teles (Esquires), their beauty and genius is simplicity. It’s a working man guitar. A high end Tele is a bit nonsense. Thanks for doing this!

I actually picked up a butterscotch finish one of these last year. Absolutely stunning guitar for a Syd Barrett fan like myself. I recently found a rosewood neck from the 60s Classic Vibe model Esquire Custom, and I’m looking to get a 60s custom shop pickup and Eldred Mod wiring harness before turning this into a more proper Syd Barret spec tribute guitar. Easily my favorite guitar in my very small collection.

I tried one of the butterscotch CV Esquires in a shop and I was impressed. That no tone pot load on the pickup is a great sound. I'm about to put together a partscaster and I'm going to make it an Esquire. That blue colour is nice. Two new 21 model Butterscotch Blondes at a small music store up in Wisconsin popped on eBay this morning. I purchased the heavier of the two (7lb -14oz ). @@theguitaristas I received it early this morning and it's perfectly flawless!.. Quite possibly (to me) the nicest guitar I've ever owned/seen. It's even nicer than my 2017 American Special FSR Tele in Gloss Black with matching Headstock. It also sounds as good as the Texas Special pickups in it. I can only tell it's a 2 piece body from how the grain forms a V on the butt end right at the strap button. In fact, it's so perfect it would be easy to think it's a one piece body or maybe covered front/back with veneer. It far exceeds my expectation in every possible way. I damn sure LOVE it!!.. At first I thought there was problem, and I've seen other reviews saying the forward position was useless. Your pedal showed otherwise. Thanks. * Pretty sure there's no routing under the pick guard. Andertons took it off. I'm not positive since there might be differences due to model year. Theirs hand binding so it might be newer.

@@theguitaristas Thanks. I'm around your age and a pandemic guitarist. I decided after many years of messing around that music is about the only thing that makes sense. So I've gotten serious, accumulated pedals and guitars, but keep focusing on the simple. Tomo Fujita demonstrated an Esquire, simplicity itself, which hooked me. He agrees with you, but I found it hard to believe until you "proved" it. It would be interesting to compare the difference between pine and nato, which I think is a kind of mahogany. In theory I like heavier guitars, but my back objects. I try and view limitations as advantages. If Django could play with two fingers, I've got no excuses.

The sparkling light coming off that chrome can really mesmerize the pretty ladies in the front row, is what I heard from some guitar gurus. How did you like the sound of this Esquire Collin? I heard that one of the Steppenwolf guitar players used an Esquire. Pine body gives extra weight which does not sound great to me. Wanted something that reacts well with distortion. Perhaps the Classic Vibe Custom Tele with the humbucker might be better for me. Hard to say. I'm looking for something that would give a great crunch sound. Jerome from Michigan.

Hi, hope you are well, certainly, I own a 2008 Epiphone '56 gold top with P90 and it is my favorite, sounds and play as paradise, so pleasant, and only changed to a tusq xl nut and goth bridge and saddles, as well a 2010 Squier strat vintage modified that I changed to steel saddles, musically brass full size block, and tusq nut, and wow that guitar is amazing so much sustain, great neck and the original duncan designed coils HSS that sound really good, so, cheap guitars, that I can afford, that with a little not expensive upgrades and a proper setup, are great, indeed. Take care.

Thanks man, I’m finally beginning to realise that bridge / saddles / tailpiece upgrades are the way forward to make affordable guitars next level! 😎🎸👍

@@theguitaristas Hi, again, Thank you very much indeed, for your work and kind answer, the "must" with affordable guitars is the nut, especially 3x3 layout, and tusqxl $13.69 , in my case, I can tell, that was an easy upgrade that works (changed in Epi SG, LP's, and even a squier strat, and tunning isuues were gone with an improved sound), and with a price, cheaper than the international shipment hahahaha. For epiphones guitars, a second upgrade not to radical or expensive, but I believe an improvement, that I was able to afford and purchase through stewmac only, and with a good quality: 1.-Gotoh Tune-o-matic Bridge with Studs/Bushings, Nickel Item # 1511-N $29.06 + shipping 2.-Gotoh Aluminum Stop Tailpiece, Nickel, M8 x 1.25 Item # 5740-N $40.92 + shipping In my experience so far, just the tailpiece upgrade improved in better sustain and resonance, and the saddles are better quality, the slots, size and material, (9-46 string gauge), because of the solid ancher at the end of the saddle's screws, so no buzzing playing open string. At the end, you can improve your guitar, spending only in those 3 items, with a total of $83.67 + shipping. If you want, there is a thorough, tailpiece related video, that I saw regarding gotoh tailpiece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpy3gWtvabmJh9E take care.

@@theguitaristas Sure, thank you, One very important thing to remember is that, even knowing that epiphone, squier and some others, are intended, to make you realize and think, that is kind of a taste from the original ones, but you have to know that it is not true, and no upgrades will level the value, re-sale value compared. You improve them in the way that you can afford and want to, at the end is not that good to invest a lot in changes rather than to use it as it, but if it makes you want to play it more and In some way better, comfortable and inspiring, go for it.

No!... 😲 by all means do that to a standard telecaster but keep Esquire as a single pickup, it will force you to play differently. It’s a bit like when people want to replace wraparound tailpieces with tuneomatics... it’s simply vandalism! 😂

Thank you for the great videos, I'm new to this channel. I have a (possibly stupid) question. I have a Squire 50s classic vibe Tele with a 4 way switch, so if I play it in the 1st position with only the bridge pickup and tone on 10, is it the same as not having a tone control at all? same sounds I'm asking...or does it running through the pot even pinned at 10 take some of the attack away?
@theguitaristas
@theguitaristas 3 жыл бұрын
Hey M L thanks for comment! - Well I'm certainly no expert at such matters but I guess the answer is that it could in theory sound different if the pot is completely bypassed and depending on how it's wired maybe it already is? Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it though as it's going to be a tiny tiny difference and hey the tone is all in the fingers anyway right?? 😆👍🎸
