Beautiful car! The first VW I ever drove was a ‘Sea Blue ‘65, owned by a friend’s family. That was in 1970, and it had plastic flower stickers plastered on it. It was my first time driving a stick shift as well, and I was amazed at how easy it was to drive. I always loved that color. I bought a Zenith Blue ‘67 Convertible in ‘73 for $500.

Very nice! Except for the alternator. My 66 is converted to 12v but I am using one of the electronic voltage regulators on it with a Bosch generator. The electronic VR helps with the engine surging caused by the mechanical contact opening and closing in the original Bosch VR and gives a much smoother, even idle. I have no add on loads like a modern stereo so it works just fine. I have the original Sapphire AM radio which has been restored with new electrolytics and an electronic step down voltage converter 12v to 6v so it works just just like original. There is a guy on the Samba who does these Sapphire restorations. Beautiful 65 restoration!

Such a beauty! Great Job!!! Hey Chris, weren't 1963-1966 bugs offered in a 12 volt option, then going to 12 volt on all in 1967?
@classicvwbugs2 жыл бұрын
Im not sure, maybe it was offered when 67 came in? You could have went back to the dealership with your 63 or whatever 6v bug you had and asked for it to be converted.
