I totally enjoyed this video. Thank you for your knowledge it's definitely appreciated. I have 3 bug projects that need tending too and this video gave me the confidence to tackle them. Be blessed

Did you do it? I'm trying to figure out if it's something I should also tackle myself.

I couldn't afford new pans so my buddy and i fabricated some out of a 95 Ford F-150 tailgate. Yes, there were a few beers involved but we ended up with 18 gauge floor pans.

That is almost an indentical piece that I have to change in my '65. I drilled the spot welds from the "transmission tunnel" side and backside, but since I have body on, I had to cut the outer side with grinder. I'm going to do the spot welds where I can and seam weld rest...
@davidcononie8 жыл бұрын
looks like a solid job to me, I am impressed how you worked the pan quarters to fit and did the underside two, I know some people do this body on but they must put the car on a lift to do the underside? I would hope they do both sides? anyway nice work sir

He's a actually pretty good with that stick welder.. most people would've put a hole on it.. yes he should've used a mig or Tig.. but it's not like he didn't know what he was doing or how to weld he actually does.

I don't get the negative comments. I have done rust repair/ panel replacement . the welder is very skilled to succesfully weld sheet metal with a stick welder. A stick welder will burn thru rust residue much better than a mig welder. Add paint and seam sealer and what more could you want?? Factory work is spot weld and seam sealer.

Not the prettiest, to be honest and knowing the looks of the bugs you pump out - I'd expect this kind of repair to be at a whole different level, but given he's welding outside, stick is the safest to prevent oxidation and contaminants in the weld... I've welded sheet metal with stick and it is fun, got to say, so respect for patience - saying that, I've done it on few Transits when you're welding mainly rust to rust that will turn into rust in weeks here in the UK... :)) Apart from that, gives me a lot of confidence, knowing what I'll be doing with mine.

Hi Chris , In Australia if you weld floors with a Arc Welder you would fail if it went over the Pits ( DOT Licensing) as it could let noxious gasses into the cab ( a mate some 30+ years ago learnt the hard way and had to redo the whole Job from scratch , We have to do it with TIG welding , Is their such standards in America ? To me this knowledge is important as I would love to Do up a Beetle myself and any correct way I can do it is for me important as I have limited money and want to do the job correctly the first time and use what money I have to further the project along to completion without do-overs Love the channel and the information you share with us thanking you. Tony

+Moondyne .Joe Yeah in the USA, I don't think it is an issue, each country has there own standards I guess. If you seal the welds and rust proof it with a paint like POR-15, I think it should prevent the gasses from omitting into the car.

I Suppose the main thing is to Grin go to another suburb or in my case country town and ask a Member of the Vehicle inspection team for what is correct procedure then devise a safe work around or follow the rules it is better to do it correctly the first time as it saves money in the long run Thankyou for your response Chris Tony

+Moondyne .Joe Yea in the usa we have bugs like mine66 vert that looks like I dug it out of the ground today, and I never had a lick of trouble, doesn't need inspection as its registered as classic, runs well as it has a new chico motor, highly recommend him yall

In Western Australia so far we are very lucky once you either Buy a Reg'd Car all you have to do is go to the DOT ( Dept of Transport ) or in my case because I live 100km North of Perth go to the local police put in a transfer of Licence paper pay the cost and thats it the only time you have to go " over the Pits" (Vehicle Inspection) is if you where picked up by the cops and they put a Yellow sticker on the vehicle meaning they on a cursory inspection on the road found a default IE bald Tires, make you fix that problem and then you have to go OVER the Pits to certify it was done then at that time they find something else wrong you have to fix that till all faults are fixed Over in our East , Sydney and I think Melbourne have a yearly exam for road worthiness. I don't think our people in the west would let our State govt change those rules ! So I am thinking if I buy a Reg'd older Beetle i might get away with "Ignorance " as my excuse till caught that is LoL

I've been intimidated about doing this type of work myself because I thought I would need a TIG welder. I was surprised to see this one done with stick. Is that normal?
@classicvwbugs8 жыл бұрын
+John Gassmann You can use all different types, whatever paint brush you want to use. Each job will come out differently.
