I'm sure if there was color it wouldnt be as elegant as its perceived to be, we are not accustomed to watching black and white, the usual color we see in movies today is deeply rooted in our own experience and culture but the unfamiliar bland color in old films induces a feeling of elegance and class which is so unlike the culture we are used to in our present time.

Would be interesting to have seen some of these outtakes from color films, such as Robin Hood, but not all the footage that was shot for these movies ever made it as far as being printed in color (Technicolor in this case)---it was too costly and time-consuming, so only selected takes were eventually printed in color---tho you may be well aware of that. I've seen quite a few bloopers from these old films over the decades. If I recall, it seems that most of them were from Warner Brothers films. They must have had fun screening these. Clarke Gable didn't wear a vest in "It happened one night". Some people in the audiences may have been shocked but others followed suit and sales of vests and singlets plummeted.
