Hey Doug! Frank from Earthside and composer of this piece. Thank you for this reaction! I really enjoy hearing feedback from fellow studied musicians, and just from listening to this one video, I can tell you have a deep technical understanding of music and composition (also sounds like you have perfect pitch too haha). Some thoughts of mine to listen for if you listen to this piece again: I'm an emotional/timbral composer, usually ignoring complex harmony, in favor of finding the perfect timbral arrangements to evoke strong emotions. A lot of the composition of the song revolves around the instrument/sonic choices to convey the power of the message of the song. As far as I know, this is the first piece of music to be written for 2 drum kits, whose parts intertwine to form a cohesive arrangement. There are drum fills that carry over from one drummer to another. The drums are synchronized in the arrivals of the phrygian sections, while the bridge between those sections contains the drums hitting kicks and snares at different moments creating a continuous beat. I'd love to see more reactions or arrangement/composition breakdowns of our other songs, I think you'd find them really interesting!

Hello Frank. Enjoying the new album immensely. If the intention of the track is to trigger an emotional response from the listener, I find the composition highly effective. Would it be safe to say that much like a work of art, it takes multiple listens to fully appreciate this work even for a professionally trained ear? I would anticipate the first listen would be to take in how the music fits with the visuals. It might be overbearing to really get a full emotional response. It would take a another couple of listens to feel like I could grasp what was going on in the intent of the story which could bring another completely different emotional response. Then when I realized that there are two separate overlaying drum parts, I needed to listen another half dozen times to fully appreciate how much time and effort went into this composition. So, I would not expect a first time listen to pick up anything close to the different layers in this song.

@@Arrow2theACL yea I mean a lot of my favorite music has taken time to incubate. I totally agree that some music takes many listens to discover all of the musical emotional components. Hopefully I wasn’t implying that Doug wasn’t hearing or couldn’t hear these things…I most certainly think he does/can! Haha. I just get excited talking about the details of music 😁. I’m honored that this piece of music moved you in a special way, and thanks for sharing it with all the kind people here 🙏

@@frankcsacramone I didn't get that you were implying Doug didn't pick up on them. I was speaking more on general terms. I know that Doug likes to do in-depth breakdowns on first reactions. This one might have been his toughest challenge yet because of the many layers within the music and the video. I felt like it needed to be shared. I think Doug did a great job. He even mentioned wanting to hear it again.

Thanks Doug for allowing me to be a part of the Daily Doug and letting me pick out the reaction today. I hope people who have not seen this enjoy. Sure on its own it is a piece of music, but with the video it is a work of art much like a painting that makes you think and conceptualize thoughts about humanity. I can't tell you how many times I watched this video and I can feel completely different emotions and thoughts each time.

Interpretation for me. The Red that is spreading is knowledge. Just what did the one brother witness when separated from his world and brother? Was it a different perspective of what we know and love (our home)? The titans fighting was attached to chains from up above and the brothers' home were above their journeyed location. You also see chains in the brothers chamber connected at the beginning of the video and detached at the end. The gate closing indicates they are not supposed to see what was beyond it, like it is being shielded from them knowing what is ahead. Once the one brother figures it out he makes it his mission to spread that knowledge. The other brother no matter his relationship can't process the anger of the other brother. The only thing he can process is the damage he is causing, so his brother is lost and must be stopped at all cost.

My only question to you Doug is why it took this long to react to Earthside. I’ve been trying to suggest this piece for months, but I didn’t know how to do it.. this piece I remember my endless excitement when I found out Earthside had come out with a new song because their first album like their second is a masterpiece. And this was the first song that they released off of that album. And although I could not see the imagery because I am totally blind, I remember thinking am I in Final Fantasy or something like that when I’m listening to this. Like this is the epic boss, fight song that you would hear as the finale to a video game or something of that sort. And I literally broke into tears. The first time I heard the song I could not control myself I ugly cried, and then I listen to it again and again, and again five times just in the first day.. and I remember thinking my God if this is what we’ve got to expect for the second album, this album is gonna blow my mind, and it surely did not disappoint with songs like let the Earth sink and the lesser evil and Let the Truth Speak just the name of you this album is a true masterpiece of both musicianship and lyrics that go beyond the normal realm of thought. I think you should react to all their other songs, because each one tells its own story, and you will never hear the same thing from Earthside twice..

You should absolutely react to the song Let The Truth Speak. Earthside doesn't have its own singer, but invites guest vocalists to do the singing. On Let The Truth Speak, they have Daniel Tompkins of TesseracT, one of prog metal's greatest vocalists at the moment (react to TesseracT's Legion from their 2023 album War of Being if you want to hear more of him), and this Russian vocalist Gennady Tkachenko-Papizh, who adds a lot of atmosphere to the song. It's a 10+ minute prog epic, one of the best I've ever heard

This band got me out of a very bad year emotionally man. It's amazing how you can just listen to something and by time HEAL you without them even knowing. Their first album is pretty great and so much underrated. Please Check it out if you can. Also Mr. Helvering Sir, I think you'd really like a song called The Summoning by Sleep Token. I'm pretty sure you'd like their genre blending and still pretty good music. Not quite many note crazy but still quite proggy in my opinion :) Thanks for your reactions.

Very much Hans Zimmer. The band itself is pretty ecliptic based on who the guest is they bring in for each track. Every piece is atmospheric and epic sounding.

Hey Doug, I have a nice request for ya. A Japanese band called Sigh. Originally they are a death metal band but their last two albums are more progressive. The last album “Shiki” came out in 2022 and it is imo the best metal album of 2022. It’s absolutely brilliant. Please can you react to the song “Mayonaka No Kaii”. Thank you 🙏🏻

First time ive listened to Earthside and I'm conflicted. I want to like it but for me its a bit too stretched out and there's not enough of a melody. I think I need to go and listen again without the video as I think that distracted me from the music.
