@@69Tiburoncito If I remember correctly, Devin's only condition to be part of the project was that he would come up with his own stuff for his part. I'm not 100% sure if it was Devin Townsend or someone else but this is something he'd probably ask. And his contribution was amazing...so was the album , now that we mentioned it, one more praise for Arjen Lucassen won't hurt.

There's a ton to get through, and it is so varied that most people would likely find something to love in his catalogue. If only more people were exposed to his work.

Brilliant as the quarantine version is, I think this one is even better and you get that interaction between Devin and the audience as well, which in my mind is equally as impressive as his musical talents. I was at his Australian version of this gig - it was an acoustic set in a small theater and it was fantastic. He's just like in that vid all the time, and towards the end he did a sit down QA and/just talk to the audience. Really great, lovely person. Can't suggest seeing him live enough. If nothing else, I was really down when I went to the show - almost didn't go. Left happier than I'd been in a long time.

@FlipperWolf3 жыл бұрын
Damn I wasn't ready for that one! Too bad this isn't the best rendition of this song he's done in my opinion, but still, so cool that you watched this one! Also here's my daily suggestion: :p Honestly, you being a classical composer, and seeing your reaction to stuff like Opeth, I really think a next step would be And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope. It's from a pretty extreme band called Ne Obliviscaris, probably more extreme than anything you've listened to so far, yet the music is so beautifully, tastefully crafted that it's been studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (one of Australia's most prestigious classical Conservatories). I think you can find articles about that by searching "ne obliviscaris study" on Google. Anyway, that's really a must, tho I don't know which version would be better to react to from the studio or live version. If it had to be one I'd go for the live in Colorado 2016, but the studio version alone is better to really concentrate on the masterfull composition. I know you'll probably hate the harsh vocals from one of the two singers, as well as the overwhelming use of double bass, but I beg you to see past that and just look at the virtuosity. Eitherway, I enjoy your videos a lot, cheers from France :D

And talking about other Metal artists who worked with symphonic orchestra, you can listen to the awesome "Gateways" by Dimmu Borgir, from the "FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT" show, they're a symphonic black metal band, the mix of both world is just insane. Also anything from the first half of the live in Plovdiv by Devin Townsend, he did a whole set of his most theatrical and powerful (I would say) songs with a symphonic orchestra as well, it's a must!

Doug, check out Devin's bio. He churns out songs ranging from Ants (delivered in a frenetic and carnival crazy rambling way) to his own flowery gentle tunes that mirror the feel of Bring Him Home. He believes a long un-diagnosed health disorder is the root of extremes in his music.

On our drive to Atlanta for ProgPower USA III back in 2002 we listened to music from the bands as a few of them were unknown to us at the time. We listened to a couple Devin Townend and Strapping Young Lad tracks and didn't go back to it, finding Edguy and Silent Force more to our liking (we were going for Gamma Ray and Blind Guardian.) On stage... Devin Townsend was amazing, as he is an entertainer. Still not a fan of all his music, but I'm a fan of him, and have watched quite a few KZbin clips of his live shows.

Love your technical and professional analysis on your reactions, had never heard of Devin Townsend till you reacted to a prior video, interesting act, heavy as well as great and interesting voice. Hope to explore a little bit more of his music in the future. Would love though if you could react to Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s ‘Far Beyond The Sun,’ ‘Icarus Dream Suite Opus 4,’ ‘Evil Eye,’ or ‘Little Savage’ off his 1984 debut album ‘Rising Force,’ all brilliant masterpieces, essentially’Far Beyond The Sun’ Yngwie was only 20 years old when he composed, recorded and released the album. Yngwie was and still is one the most influential rock guitarists since Edward Van Halen and Randy Rhodes, and ushered in the Neo-Classical Rock Guitar movement. Thank you, and as always great and fun channel.

Hi Doug. I’d like to recommend that you check out Yngwie Malmsteen, particularly the track Icarus’ Dream opus 4, where he plays a bit of Albinoni’s Adagio.
