"Isn't this where we came in?" is how the album wraps back into itself. The very first thing you hear at the opening of the album is a voice say "we came in" as a note starts to play. And the very last thing you hear on the album is that very same note playing, and the same voice saying "Isn't this where" and then silence.

The live version from 'Is there anybody out there' is THE best version. Roger with his inhale screeches and the way he almost talks down to the audience is so good. Came from earls court where 5 shows were recorded, with intent to be added to the movie, however none of the footage made it. This show was later released as said album above.

I saw them live in 1988, and this one was their final song, everything - EVERYTHING - they had on stage and off stage was set into motion, setting the night (open air concert) on fire with lights, lasers and erratic movements of all the machinery they had used before, cumulating into a sudden silence after all the stage seemed to explode followed by a very fine fireworks :) Probably the biggest WOW-moment of my life. Never had a single second filled better :)
@stoppropaganda25732 ай бұрын
There is a very important reference in this song that most miss. In the novel "Lord of the Flies", Roger rolls a boulder toward Piggy who is desperately trying to restore order with the conch shell and is struck by the boulder, which shatters the conch shell and sends Piggy to his death on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff. This is a crucial moment in the novel and Roger Waters expresses this moment in "Run Like Hell" as this: "With your nerves in tatters As the conch shell shatters And the hammers batter Down the door You'd better run" Very powerful and insightful stuff!
@aarongideon90362 ай бұрын
The lyric is not 'conch shell' it's 'cockleshell', as in the flimsy boats used in Britain's WWII Operation Frankton. There are multiple references to WWII movies in The Wall obviously so the movie 'The Cockleshell Heroes' might be an inspiration for the lyric. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Frankton en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cockleshell_Heroes

While ITAOT is heavily edited from various performances and has some slight mixing issues, it has the definitive version of Run Like Hell imo (as well as Another Brick pt. This Song made me a Pink Floyd-fan. Saw it in the performance on the silver clef award festival in Knebworth 1990 (all in all a great festival with fantastic bands). Later I had the chance to see it performed by Roger Waters on a "The-Wall-Tour", must have been in 2013 I think. It was an epic and frightening experience. Roger was standing there, clothed as this communist/Nazi-Leader, showing a video where soldiers are murdering civilians and the crowd (me as well) was excited joining him in claping his hands in that moment. That's why it's so simple for whomever to manipulate and control us primitive human beings... At least afterwards we can think about on what we were doing, so maybe we are able to learn... But anyway. Thanks for sharing this great song on youtube.
