King Gizzard is hands down the best and most prolific rock band of the last decade, bar none, and I firmly believe they will be remembered for decades after they call it quits. They are also criminally unknown outside of Australia, although this is quickly changing... Just this month they are releasing THREE new albums! ^ Nonagon is probably my favorite of theirs (it's a tough choice, so many masterpieces). I love how thoroughly cohesive it is, a perfect loop from start to finish, weaving themes through every track. Even more unique, tracks even flow beautifully between each other, even when shuffled. Something I really appreciate about King Gizz, is that all of their albums are, in various ways, concept albums. Sometimes many heavily integrated overt concepts ("Polygonwanaland", and "Ice, death, [...]" Come to mind.), And other times ideas like "Let's make a series of albums on a microtonal scale". Always so much to explore, and (for me) often a doorway to learning super interesting music theory.

They played nearly 4 hours at Red Rocks on October 11th, it was a "Marathon Set" and that was an understatement. Played music from nearly all of their albums, all in one show. They did this "Marathon Set" 2 days in a row, October 10th & 11th. These guys are musicians musicians. That show has no peer that I know of, and I'm confident no other band has the talent, endurance, or desire to do anything like what they did. This band will be discussed by musical teachers in a few years. Genuinely, there may not be another band like them now or ever and I'm so grateful. I met them the very next night (October 12th) in Denver at Marquis Theatre, where another Australian band, The Babe Rainbow, was playing. Both bands are buds, and to see Ambrose, Joey, and Cavs there and shake their hands was wild. They were down to Earth and gracious. These guys can't be stopped.

Iron Lung is a great song off this brand new album!
@fenncarr37742 жыл бұрын
Gonna be honest nonagon is kinda overrated. The individual songs aren’t as strong as most of their other albums and the perfect loop only works by basically having a sort of interlude between songs. A more perfect infinite loop album is mercurial world by Magdalena bay.

Glad to see you and Giz have found each other. I liked how you interpreted the lyrics but wanted to share that the band is known for their environmentalist lyrics and this song is generally thought to be about not acting (it not turning off the dripping tap) on all the things we could be doing to slow, stop, or reverse climate change. I think it applies individually and definitely in a corporate level (the suits in charge of the world). So yes you can let your hair down and rock out to this one, but the lyrical content is actually quite heavy when you really take it in. Thanks for your perspective on this track and I hope you get a chance to check out more King Gizzard. Their discography can be initiating but I think you'd like their new album Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava (one song in each Greek Mode), Polygondwanaland (polyrhythmic album), and quarters (chill and jazzy). They also have a Turkish inspired (but not resulting in a Turkish style) microtonal trilogy of albums: Flying Microtonal Banana, KG, & LW

I like your interpretation of the meaning of the song. I've never thought about that and it does make a lot of sense. but I think there's also a more literal meaning in this, you see, these guys have dealt with envoiremental themes time and time again (see fishing for fishies, rat's nest or some songs like if not now then when or straws in the wind) so I think there's some of it in this, "the dripping tap" is also a literal tap, that makes the sea levels rise and suits in charge of the world won't turn it off

Glad to be a part of your life because you are interesting and intelligent and I love reviews of my favorite bands. I just discovered King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and just watched your review of The Dripping Tap. It was also my first time hearing the song, which was excellent. Anyway I just discovered this band this week and I am going to listen to their other works ( 20 albums worth) because they are refreshing to hear. I think you would enjoy the studio version of The Iron lung with the accompanying video. To me it looks like what you might imagine under the influence of good acid Anyway check it out and let us all know how you like and interpret it

Thanks for the video Doug. King Gizzy is an absolute juggernaut of sound and experience. They are prolific beyond my understanding and they span most forms of modern music with their own unique sound and style. They are the most amazing and unforgettable band I've seen play live.

The description of the Celtic and or ancient sound is exactly what draws me to KGLW. I think of it as very tribal basic bare bones. Spot on with just in the moment good music.

First time I've seen 3 things in one of your videos. Gizzard, Mary Jane, and the keyboard. I love all of them. Keep going skro, I personally, dig it.

great review. something else I absolutely love about this piece is the use of different instruments and sounds including the harmonica, wah-wah pedal, and clapping.

Listening to this song live and in person is such an insane experience I'll never forget. Had me emotional by the end because of how incredible it was. They are such a special band for this era of music

I'll be delighted to get your reaction to this music....a modern band that can stand measure to measure with the best advanced rock that has ever been done.

Thank you, Doug! (I was one of those emailers you referenced). Looking forward to more KGLW reviews! This is one of my favorite bands and is IMO the most prolific band in the world. Their new album is really good. Cheers

I went to a KGLW concert in Amsterdam a few months back, i expected them to start with some shorter, lesser known songs to get the crowd warmed up like i am used to with other bands, and i was hoping they would play the dripping tap as the big finale or something. What a fool i was. There was no warm up, no boring less popular songs, they started with the dripping tap, and when the drop at 5:33 happened the entire crowd just erupted, which they kept up for 2 hours straight, only interupted by the mosh pit sitting down and rowing for a song. KGLW and it's fans are insane and i love it, 10/10 One of the best bands that give the best concerts.

They don't zig zag. They weave and blend. The song absolutely blew me away when I heard it last May. It was the first of their music I had ever listened to. It's a tour de force. Instant classic

As a long time Gizz fan, I always get excited when people discover their sound. You should definitely check out their microtonal stuff like Sleep Drifter, Pleura, or O.N.E.

ALWAYS read along with their lyrics, maybe not at first listen, but it adds so much more to what they’re trying to convey

Head On / Pill was my first introduction to the band years ago...another long jam...but so, so good. Been a huge fan since. They never fail to amaze and entertain...and incredibly prolific as you said. What a band. Great to see you getting into them. Welcome to the world of KGATLW 😊

I heard this band a couple of years ago (some obscure radio station) driving late at night. They sounded like prog out of the 70s. Cool stuff.

So happy you have discovered the gizzverse! These guys are hands down the most interesting thing in new music. You should really dig in deeper, these guys love to get nerdry with wacky music theory concepts that you would love

The album I highly recommend is Nonagon Infinity. That album is the perfect intro to what this band can do. A 9 song album that is technically one never ending song. As always keep up the great reactions.

Great video, please give their latest album a listen!! :) Each song is written in a different mode! My personal favorites are Iron Lung and Magma, but every song has so much to unpack and love about it. They have another new record coming out Tuesday, AND another album coming out near the end of October!! I'd love to hear more of your takes!
