There's videos of Tommy playing electric over the decades & his brothers are amazing too. He played electric with Josh Smith & Joe Bonamassa also. He's one of the GOAT's for sure !

He does "Over The Rainbow" and it features tons of harmonics. Unreal and gorgeous. His "Initiations" is incredibly creative, and you will not believe the sounds he creates with just a guitar. I've seen him five times in concert and each one is an event like no other. Genius, no one like him.

An Aussie icon .... the guitarists guitarist. The little piece you were trying to recognize was "Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting" by Elton John. Tommy loves to drop little tidbits into his performances. At one time, as a bit of a gimmick, he used to play 2 different (basic) songs at once by playing the notes alternately. He and his brother Phil (RIP) had a band that was legendary in Australia - both equally talented, and yes, they could both shred on an electric guitar. Cheers from Oz.

I'm pretty sure that part was 'Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting' by Elton John 😀 Tommy had actually also played electric guitar, many many moons ago (70's), when he was a member of John(ny) Farnham's band, if I remember correctly 🙂 My own first impression of him had been a live performance of an acoustic piece aptly titled 'The Hunt' and in the mid-90's, when his hair was still dark, too; That performance, including a very entertaining 'percussion' intro blew me away! 🤯 _This_ performance is even a few notches _up_ by comparison! 🤯🤯🤯 😅 By the way, Neighbor, you seem to know at least _some_ stuff about guitars; Do you play, too? 😀

Another great acoustic player is Adrian Legg. The guy bends solo notes within the chords he's strumming. I think you would like the original, with all of the accompanying orchestration. There's also a KZbinr called Gabriella who has performed this with the original composer, and they do a great job together as well. Enjoy your reactions.

I watched a video of a Swedish guitarist Gabriella Quevedo, and Tommy doing this hit. Gabriella held her own with Tommy, almost pick by pick, bend by bend. Well you get the idea. You might want to check out her channel on the tube.

Tommy is absolutely amazing, one of the great masters (and yes, he does great on electric as well as acoustic)! Missed him the last time he came through town, but I plan to see him at some point. That was excellent! I do know him, I thought the name was familiar. I saw him on a video on here with an English guy and who and what song is now bugging me because it was great. That was Saturday night's alright for fighting by Elton John that he went into.

I saw Tommy live last year. It was an amazing display of guitar skill, musicianship, and storytelling. For almost 2 hours it was just Tommy and his guitar, playing and telling stories. There is a lot of variety in his music, not all fireworks. "Classical Gas" is commonly and encore. Not an ounce of pretension is his body, just a great guy having a blast playing music. He always picks an up and coming guitarist to tour with him, and is loves to showcase other players. He's now based in Nashville, so he tours through my neck of the woods every couple years. See him, you will have a good time.

Incredible guitarist AND an Aussie. He was also a member of a band called the “Fargone Beauties”. It needs to be said slowly in an Aussie accent to get the joke 😉. They did a cover of Wild Thing. He and his brother Phil are both exceptional musicians. Tommy dropped out of school to tour at age 11. Love watching guitarists but i prefer to watch their finger work more closely. So much of his is muscle memory. Incredible.

Yeh he's a long time friend of a mate of mine, who's a singer and I've seen plenty of his shows and had a few nights out with them. He's such a nice humble guy and regarded as one of the top acoustic guitarists in the world. And yes he also plays electric guitar in the same way. You have to watch him do "Initiation" on the electric guitar. He does things that no one else can do. It's about Indigenous Australian Ceremony for young boys to be initiated to men. Love your reactions. Ps he's an Aussie like me.

Gloria maybe-Saturday for sure!. Happened to walk past a venue in Sydney where he was playing and about to start. Went to buy a last- minute ticket........"sorry sir" etc... Tommy appeared next to the ticket seller and got me in amongst his family seating!. I got to witness an absolute master-class of guitar,personality,humour, personality,and entertainment with the bonus of witnessing his family react and express. Tommy is simply one of the finest acoustic and electric guitar players that ever walked the planet. A touring professional musician since he was 5 years old. A wonderful person who exudes kindness in his personal interactions. I was talking to Richard Smith one evening and his phone went off with a text from Tommy just checking to make sure his drive to Minneapolis went well.

I used to live in Visalia CA until 2017. Visalia is on the way to Sequoia Natl. Park. 8-9 miles out of town used to be an awesome old wooden bar and restaurant called Orange Blossom Junction. The owner had connections to the music industry and his goal was to have the 50 greatest guitarists play at his place. My work load was so intense in those days I'd start my day around 3:30 to 4 am everyday. Only good thing about was, the owner of the OBJ would post his upcoming shows at midnight as he left. That made me the 1st to see upcoming show and order front row center tickets to shows I wanted to see. The OBJ could seat 230 or 180 depending on the size of the required stage. I got to see Tommy Emmanuel twice from about 10 -12 feet away. Watchin'' that guy that close was a treat I'll never forget. He's such a personal guy. He'd take questions from the crowd and explain the inspiration for alot of his songs. Just an easy guy to talk to, no ego, no big head, just a guy and his guitar. I have upmost respect and appreciation for his talent and who he is. If he ever comes anywhere near you, do anything you can to see him. He is simply the best. If you want to blow your and your uncles minds watch this song called "Initiation" from "Center Stage". It's a tribal tribute to young Aborigines seeking manhood in the outback alone.
