"Is it gimmicky? Yes. But I like stray kids' gimmicks" that's honestly such a good way to put it. It's just ALMOST too much, but not quite. It's toeing the line between kitsch and cool, and it makes you think "do I.....do I like this or not?" and honestly that's a very 'stray kids' feeling to have. I think the reason it works so well is because of how much influence the boys have in the creation of it. If it was a random producer/composer making it for stray kids, it wouldn't have the same homemade, fun AND kitschy feeling as it does with 3racha making it, where you can tell it's just them trying to jam out and do whatever they want to do to test their own boundaries

honestly, ive just labeled them as experimental after hearing My Side back when i was getting to know them beyond the songs i already knew from kpop shuffle playlists. i already like the rock and grunge type they did for I am WHO and Hellevator as casual listener around 2018 and 2019, but then God's menu blew up on my face, i heard the tortoise and the hare (please the laughter in the end is so iconic, it's so "skz"), so i just listened to their whole discography. and the experience is just something that sets skz apart. the confusion, the shock, the ascending of souls, or fist shaking-face distorted-growling response. when i listen to skz, i really end up "listening" (i often use music as a background so...i don't absorb them well)

I think we have to give a lot of credit to the producers and 3racha, because as the one musician said, everyone in Stray Kids has very unique voices, some of which you wouldn't traditionally find in K-pop, but they've learned to expertly craft those voices and use them to their advantage rather than hide them to really make great songs that are unique to them Also, I loved the pair who were giggling adorably, because I feel like they represent most Stays when listening to Stray Kids music. And I've played instruments in the past, but I know very little about music, so I love how these classically trained musicians understand and break down these songs.

I watch this channel exclusively for Stray Kids reaction. I picture Chan loving the reactors nerding out music theories and feeling appreciated. What Stray Kids differs with conventional kpop is that songs weren’t produced by 25+ people. Chan is so good at using 8 bars as base to expand and manipulate into a whole freaking song. Love Henry’s guy perspective on falling in love (especially first time). It is exactly what Case 143 is all about. Somehow I wonder who in Stray Kids had this experience;)

Owen’s explanation of how each section works together to form a cohesive song is also a very good explanation of Stray Kids as a group! You have 8 very unique voices, from Changbin’s hard rap to I.N’s gentle tone, and individually they have their own styles, but TOGETHER, they work so well as a group. Reminds me Lee Know talking about how he doesn’t dance to stand out, he dances to fit in with the rest of Stray Kids. The kids are all incredible artists individually but Bang Chan saw something in each one that would make a cohesive team. Their individual colours mix together to make a gorgeous picture and its why I love them so much. (Sorry, I have a lot of emotions and thoughts on Skz’s team dynamic.)

This is one of the reasons I love stray kids’ music, lots of kpop tries to mix together multiple genres, languages, rapping and singing with contrasting sections all in one song (I’ve seen this a lot in many recent 4th gen groups). A lot of the time, this comes off rather disjunct and sounds kind of odd. However, stray kids is always able to pull it together cohesively so that there are interesting sections that stand out but don’t sound like they’ve come out of nowhere. I’d like to think that this is because the song writing process for stray kids is a lot more personal and intimate where the members actually take part and have quite a large bit of creative freedom. This also makes skz have a very distinct sound even with such a diverse discography.

when i first listened to this song, it took me awhile to get used to it and i couldn’t explain why. it finally clicked at 9:34 as jason explains exactly WHY!!! i think in my head i was so used to brighter songs burst into a big melody especially when the pre-chorus were building up like that. so during the first few listens, my brain could not really process the chorus 😭

When I first got into kpop I felt like a music robot picking out the key and finding classical elements within the songs and out of all the songs this song kept that same rhythm within the whole song even when they took some notes out of it or reversed it, it was beautiful and simple.
