I'm not sure what part of Jujutsu BASICS people do not understand. By your logic, firearms training at the range is a waste because that's not how attackers really attack. This is all beginner material. And yes it works fine practically and at speed (I am a police officer.)

Excellent video of basics. I practice Aikido and I love the style. Why do so many people have to say "but it won't work in real life". I'm 67 and wish I had known this stuff in my teens - not to punish others but to protect myself from bullies. Cheers.

Well taught. One thing I've learned from cross training in the arts is that what you can't do slow and accurate, you won't do fast and smooth. Regardless of style, my experience has taught me the jutsu happens in between events in the exchange. Hands setting up feet, standing setting up ground and etc... No one method fits all encounters, so one's muscle memory and accuracy are key components. Well taught. Osu! I don't need to train in their art or even agree with technique used to appreciate the spirit of the training, the discipline of the practicioners or the skill sets they're working through. Guru Dan Inosanto always admonishes us as instructors to never take off our white belts. Always see some particle of value in a system or school. If your mind remains open, you can continually fill it.

Thank you for the comment. Aikido has its roots in Jujutsu so similarities are unavoidable. If you're on the receiving end, a good way to look at it is Aikido uses off-balance a little more to facilitate the throw/ takedown. Hakko Ryu uses more pain. I don't do Aikido, I do Hakko Ryu, so the video is certainly not Aikido. Thanks for watching and the comment

Do you have any flow drills showing more random type attacks with more resistance? Basically so you don't know whats coming out of the set routines.

@metl99 I train in Daito Ryu, Hakko Ryu (also a Daito Ryu derivative) and Toraken Ryu (a Hakko Ryu derivative). The demonstration is both Hakko Ryu and Toraken Ryu. I am happy to hear from you. One of my teachers also trained in Hapkido and remarked at how similar some of the techniques are. If I can be of assistance in your research let me know. Greetings from Virginia, USA.

I agree. However, as your using the jujitsu spelling (there is no jitsu in martial arts) your confusing a general statement about the modern evolution of "jujitsu" and the meaning of "jujutsu" , which is defined as a Japanese martial art. Thus, I think the viewer's use of the term authentic. Not everyone knows the etymology or transliteration of the term so I prefer to use the term "classical"

There is no "authentic" jujitsu. No one family or person developed it. Besides, any art that doesn't evolve over time, any art that isn't alive isn't worth learning.

As your calling it Ikkyo, I can see you are coming at this from an Aikido point of view. Osae Dori (Ude and Mune) in Hakko Ryu is one of the first principles and refers mostly to how the pin is executed. Most of the waza in this enbu do not include any pins. This is just a demo and a lot of henka. Don't read too much into it technically or from a curriculum point of view. Thanks for the comment.
@robertmrivers
@robertmrivers 15 жыл бұрын
Many people watching this and my sword videos cannot understand an aspect of traditional training. It is improper to post exact material from the curriculum, thus, henka or variations are oftentimes demonstrated. As with the sword videos I posted, the only way to see the authentic techniques is to come to the dojo. Thanks

You spread your feet to disperse the energy of the fall. We wouldn't breakfall like this and then stay there. There are many injuries that result from not spreading your feet. We drop to our knees and then to a guard position as soon as our hands and feet hit the ground. This is an instructional video, not a counter-terrorist tactical video. The physics of the fall has to be understood before modifying it. Cheers.

eh...this just doesn't feel like something that would work in a real altercation. even with someone who literally has no fight training. and don't get me wrong, i learned a martial art that had 90% of these moves in it, and i thought the same thing back then as i do now watching this video. i dont think its wise to think a guy is going to throw a punch, and you're going to automatically throw over your shoulder and twist and fling his body around etc. some of the take downs are good, but its the ones with the least steps that can be done the fastest that are good. some of them really absurd.
@robertmrivers

Ju Jitsu written is always a eurpeanised version. Also in Germany Ju Jutsu as Jiu Jitsu are modern mixed arts. Jiu Jitsu is also mostly a westernised version. The pure japanese is written Ju Jutsu with the style name like fore exampe Fusen Ryu Ju Jutsu. In Japan Ju Jutsu is only a term . They always have also the name of the style and they can diifer greatly.

Robert Rivers Why do you find it insulting when I assume a guy wearing an aikido garb is doing aikido?
@robertmrivers
@robertmrivers 7 жыл бұрын
Eldrich Blacklion precisely... its not aikido garb. In fact, I'm wearing a montsuki, which aikido never wears in training. I'm wearing brown and blue, which aikido would never wear. Have you ever studied aikido or jujutsu?
@beardedwolf628
@beardedwolf628 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I practice jujitsu. There's a bunch of techniques here that I've never seen even though I've been doing it for five years. That combined with the aikido garb makes me think it's aikido.
@robertmrivers
@robertmrivers 7 жыл бұрын
Eldrich Blacklion you practice jujitsu, or jujutsu. Jujitsu is not a word in Japanese. This is my point. I gather you train in Brazilian jujitsu or a derivative. I have trained in Classical Japanese jujutsu for nearly 30 years. The fact that you don't recognize the most basic of jujutsu techniques says a lot. However, I understand those like you with a narrow focus of martial arts might recognize this as aikido. Aikido has its roots in Japanese jujutsu, just as judo, Brazilian jujitsu, and hapkido do. These techniques are the tachi waza, or standing techniques. The ne waza, or ground techniques more familiar to ground fighting practitioners, would be in another video. Thanks for the comments.
