I was thinking the same thing. For all stringed instruments held in this fashion. We simultaneously get the fret fingering and the picking, whereas many instructional guitar videos superimpose a picture in picture.

Honestly, I still have my mandolin but since have gotten back into guitar. I had played guitar for over thirty years but stopped due to depression. Now I am playing guitar regularly. I play a lot of the bluegrass and old-time style of music and it helps me relax and enjoy life. Mandolin is a fun instrument and I may play it again.

It is very interesting to see the shift in the grip on the pick when she plays tremolo. She changes the slant that it meets the strings with. Using the pick kinda side ways.

Yes. It basically gives a sharper angle for the plectrum to hit the strong. I remember Paul Gilbert from Mr big talking about the exact same thing for faster picking

I’m fascinated by Caterina’s picking technique, particularly how she plays mainly flat against the strings then switches quickly to an angle to do tremolo. Quite different from bluegrassers - we tend to keep the angle all the time. I guess it’s partly to do with the shape of the pick.
