My wife didn't love classical music then. When she heard our second child play Beethoven 's symphonies, in his violin, everything changed. She now enjoys them. The power of music and son much more so to the legend himself, my favorite musical genius no other than Beethoven! I thank God for giving as such a man.

If you have the chance, you should visit Beethoven's house in Bonn (Germany). Last year it was his 250 birthday and I took a group of 23 students there. Pity I couldn't pay attention to all the things because I had to watch over them, but walking his house, watching his instruments, his writings, his household things... it was both very emotive and interesting

I have a new favourite classical tune, that goes straight to my top 100 list, currently under construction, and (for the moment) dominated by Mr Mozart. It is Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68 "Pastoral" and, more precisely, V. Shepherd's song. This unbelievably beautiful piece of music makes my room stretch to unimaginable size. It feels like the walls and the ceiling are trying to retreat under the gentle pressure of that powerful wave of three-dimensional beauty unleashed from the speakers, every time I play it. A definite masterpiece.

Sounds like fun. You have a whole orchestra's worth of sounds to play with. We all know the various timbres. Knowing the first things about composing would reward a person; combing, repeating with theme and variation and other strategies of composition. Awhile ago I had the thought, "what's this big thing about Beethoven. Then I forced myself to put on some headphones and listen. It really was wondrous, esp Beethoven whose work doesn't seem as accessible as Mozart. But there are composers galore beyond them. All those tunes in the Bugs Bunny cartoons have elaborations that aren't well known as the phrases used and are just rewarding once you embark. Watch soloists like Yundi Li and you begin to appreciate Classical more
