Classical Music from Laos: Lao Phene

Here I present "Lao Phene" a piece of Lao classical music.
The music is performed here by Musiciens du Palais Royal, Luang Prabang.
The accompanying photographs show the rich variety of Laos.

This is my first taste of Lao classical music. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly hasn't disappointed! I love the sounds of the traditional instruments, each of which blend so beautifully together. Thank you for this. What a rich and vibrant culture.

@@shogun3807 It’s a pretty nice place, especially the temples. My family came from the more poor side with stone homes with wooden windows and being a middle class American really put me back in reality.

If, as you say you have produced a series of films for the Bank of Laos - maybe you could ask them to buy the cd's which are available in Laos. I had to pay for the recordings myself. So I do not give you permission to use the soundtracks .

It's traditional Khmer music brought to Lan Xang by the courtship of Jao Fa Ngum and Khmer princess Keo Kanya. Real traditional Lao music is Lum.. With the acoustic pin guitar that the Tay Nung/Zhuang use as well. But modified. And the Khaen which the Tai Dam, Tai Daeng, Tai Don or Kow( white) play as well. But it's fantastic when both the Khmer instruments is played with the Lao Phu Tai ancestral instruments in Lum music.. Rhythmic intergration!!

Composed by a Laotian, you can definitely say it is Laotian. Although I do agree with culture mixing, this is not a traditional Khmer composition.
