The best version of this is Avi solo in a church in the Netherlands for the 7 Layers Session

I came across Avi's solo music at a time when I truly needed it. This song was one that truly helped me and soothed my aching heart. I must have listened to this song 100 times. Then, I heard Avi do it solo in his 7 Layers Sessions. That version of this song took my breath away! I think it is worth checking out even if you don't do a reaction video for it. Thanks again for another great reaction.

I like so much when soothing beauty resides in simple and heartfelt approaches like in this lovely video... two wonderful voices surrounded by Nature in a fine balance between earthly and spiritual transcendence without entering any religious terrain. It feels like a pure and relatable experience that goes straight to the soul. Your serene reaction and interesting comments were also perfectly fine-tuned to the general peaceful feeling of the video. Thank you very much, Sir!🕊

The Civil Wars was a great duo. Their Barton Hollow album had a lot of great songs. Avi and Joy both have beautiful voices, and blend so well. Avi's dark chocolate voice is always so comforting.

I'm so glad you are back with Avi! I must have missed this member poll. Avi has two other versions of this song. 7layers session #126 and sunset sound studio version. My favorite is 7layers because it's live in a church with just Avi and his guitar. The guitar is a '72 Giannini that belonged to Avi's uncle. Spiritual is a good word and also soul-searching. I feel Avi is on a journey to find his place in this world, and he is taking us along with him. For me, there are certain voices that "speak" to me, regardless of what they are singing. Avi's voice is one of those voices. Thanks for a great analysis. Cheers!

I agree. You really must at least check out the 7 Layers Sessions version, filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during his 2022 European tour - just him, his guitar, and the natural acoustics and reverb of the church. Intimate and soothing.

I think you would really enjoy one of two alternate versions of this song Avi has recorded. It is the 7 Layers Session recording, just Avi and his guitar in a beautiful old church in ?Holland? It’s just exquisite.

🌄🍂🍂 ... I really like the F#m chord ... I tend to play it each time I sit to play the piano. It is soothing , and in this song it fits Avi's voice like a favorite winter sweater. He has a way of talking as he sings , like he really means the lyrics. Thank you Sir Hairless for bringing another soul pleasing song to my day. 🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🌬️

Lovely reaction, always a joy to see Avi. I had forgotten about The Civil Wars. Their songs Barton Hollow and Poison and Wine used to play on repeat when I was studying in undergrad. The nostalgia is real!

I just love Avi's voice. He reminds me of a folk singer- his music seems really organic, his sound is soothing in this song. Did you know he can throat sing? Pretty cool I think. He just is so down to Earth. I miss him with Pentatonix but I can't help that I feel he needed to come into his own, and just be Avi. ❤R/A🎼💯 I just had a listen to the song you suggested .... Very similar!

Wow! Thank you for introducing me to this Sir H! I think “Soothing” is the right word. This is my favourite of all Avi's originals, but not my favourite recording of it (no shade on Joy, who is fabulous here). He does a solo version in a church in Utrecht, listed as the 7 Layers Sessions version, if you're interested. The "spiritual" quality you referred to is especially evident in that one, as is the deep resonance of Avi's voice in the magnificent acoustics of the church. I often listen to it before meditating. I would never question your trained ear, but I always thought the "electric guitar" you mention was Avi whistling... I know he is able to whistle extremely well. I always learn something new with you!

In a church in Utrecht - sounds serene ⛪ Do you mean the steel-guitar-type-sound I refer to 😅 Check out what it sounds like at the 40 second mark here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rninYWepbJuJb5o
@kayecastleman63535 ай бұрын
@@SirHairless Yes, I did mean steel guitar... not sure where my head was at there. I know Avi does whistle in some of his songs. Not whistle tones, but actual lip whistling, and he's very adept at it. I had just assumed he was doing it here. Not disputing you at all. My discount headphones and school choir ear are no match for your expertise! It was satisfying to hear your appreciation of the song, but I'm used to hearing it without the steel guitar... just Avi's acoustic guitar and his voice. Serene is exactly the word. Avi gives a half smile at the end, as if he knows he hit it out of the park. Thanks for your detailed response, and the link. Not a true "twang" fan here, but I know it's part of Avi's musical background. I was surprised it was in your wheelhouse, too. Or just efficient research? 😉

such a beautiful song, so soothing with Avis voice. Love your reactions where I can always learn something. As finding new musicians to react to you may have a look at Blake O'Connor, a young Australian country singer/songwriter living now in Nashville. He has a cover version of "Desperado" on his channel. An original would be "little bit longer" (official video with almost 1min. non musical intro to set up the story, or an acoustic version), "Time to kill". Enjoy! Oh and I can see why you compare the vibe of Avis song to the one of Gregory Alan Isakovs song.

Really enjoyed this song as the duet performed with Joy Wilson, I thought their voices sounded very nice together (there’s that word!) :). I also liked that it was predominantly in Avi’s upper register, he has such a nice smooth, round sound. The picking pattern on the guitar was reminiscent of the Travis Pick though not exactly the same but I thought it complemented the song’s style very well. Glad you chose it to react to, I don’t listen to a lot of his music. Also, I thought this one was a bit outside his typical style, frankly I have found much of his music sounded quite a bit alike but this one seems to stand more on its own to me.

The Civil Wars. Joy Williams and John Paul White blew into a million pieces. A great loss to the music industry. Joy and Avi shared a mutual management company and met there, sat on a couch and wrote this song in less than an hour. When I first watched this video last year, I was hoping Joy would become Avi's full time singing partner. I think they are perfect together- a quiet symbiotic musical match. Perhaps someday... :) A beautiful gentle song. Equally fitting analysis to match the mood. (speaking of lutes, I watch this guy play lute and classical guitar all the time. He taught me that I love the 'tremolo" sound in lute and guitar). www.youtube.com/@brandonacker/videos
