Hey umu, I was curious as to why you made everyone react to the trailer version of the song and not the full version in the album. There are quite some portions cut off for the sake of being a trailer so I simply wondered if they could've listened to the whole song, the production, the entire lyrics and stuff. "This is very vulnerable work" was a line well said. What really makes suga one of my favourite rappers in the group is because in every song I immediately just relate to his lyrics, his flow, the way he changes up and experiment with the type of sounds he makes and his cool yet passionate voice. It's just something so unique to him and he has such awareness how to really connect people to his thoughts. I'm not even a big fan of rap, but Suga changed that for me. It made me see a different color of rap than what I was used to hearing.

@@404gram I do like a lot of jhopes rap because I can always bop to it, I like rm's lyrics and a lot of his solo songs have this cool chill vibe. There are some english rappers that I like as well but I like just few songs of theirs or just that one popular song of theirs. Which is why I phrased it that way since I genuinely enjoy listening to all 3 of their content (solos and group) and they each have been my favourite at different times or moods but I keep going back to suga's songs like seesaw (which I will never stop liking no matter how many times I play it on loop). It's not always clear for me and I keep changing my mind because rap is just not something I listen to a whole lot or really search for.

Their whole Map of the Soul Album is referencing Karl Jung's theory of the Map of the Soul. Through their songs, BTS also wants to tell us that If we donot understand and accept the darker aspects of ourselves, then the self we love is not our true self, but rather an idealised version.

Exactly, they didn't get that at the end with the line you are me and me are you and we will always be together, is him accepting his shadow aka his fears that came in the context that he is living right now which is the fame and the stress of the pressure and to not feel like u can relate with other people ( since they are too famous and their schedules are tight ). Before it wasn't a big deal since they weren't that big so they can still relate with other friends that do the same. But now it's petty hard. Other example is my time from jk that talk about it in his own way ofc. And how he accept it at the end of the song too.

I must say Jason analyse was so on point, i think he absolutly need to react to some of Suga's older work like the song The Last on his mixtape Agust D, he may appreciate "the monster hungry for fame" that Suga is talking about in that song . Yep, he’s always made a commentary (even in Shadow with his “i wanna be...”) about how he fears that his ambition will become greed that keeps wanting more and more It’s incredibly crazy to me how he’s maintained the balance (from a mental health perspective) of pursuing your biggest dreams while keeping that ambition in check for fear of becoming a monster (like he said in “The Last”)

He's referenced the line several times in the past few years to question/put into perspective those desires and how warped they became as he grew more famous and how those things no longer mattered once he had it.

​@@dekuwashi but even in no more dream those lines weren't driven just by pure materialism like yeah that was part of it but also the whole song is about how young people/their generation dont have dreams; their elders/teachers/parents tell them to study study study and tell young people to become office workers and to strive for that, calling elders liars; bts sing how their peers need to be freed from those expectations and burdens placed by others and just follow your own path, criticising the system, teachers, parents, relatives etc. And when yoongi was a teen/young adult i would say he was driven to work as hard as he did, sacrifice as much as he did so he could "get these material things" as said in songs from his self titled album Agust D, D-2, some bts tracks and interviews over the years etc but it wasn't from genuine place of greed or him thinking he was better than anyone so ofc he deserves to have xyz😤 (tha last bit is sarcasm but im never sure if its conveyed through text lol) but it was his desire to improve his situation, to help his family financially, to have stable income and career in music so he doesn't have to decide between eating or walking home instead of catching the bus. It was also his unacceptance of how the world is, as said in a few songs from Agust D album he had to share a tiny a$$ room and apartment with 10 people but some classmates from when he was already in Seoul got imported brand new cars upon graduation by their parents meanwhile he is breaking his back working part time jobs and trainig for at the time a possible future debut. All of that was him seeing how the world isnt the same playing field for everyone and some get dealt better cards than others. And yeah the lines i wanna big cars, big house and big rings have been referenced many times not only in group music by yoongi but also in his solo, expanding on his thoughts over the years, going in a different direction with the lyirics. And thats one fun thing the tannies love to do but ive noticed yoongi does it even more is to reference their own words/give this subtle shout outs to some of their other songs with some lyrics and phrases. Fun fact: in this song, Suga reversed a sample from their 2013 song Intro: ORUl82 from their first mini album. It goes with the other 2 rapline songs in this album where RM sampled Intro Skool Luv Affair from their second mini album for his MOTS song Intro Persona, Jhope sampled Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool from their debut album in his MOTS sing Outro Ego. They did this because mots7, in addition to exploring Carl jung's work, BTS also wanted this album to be a reflection on their past 7 years as a group

That's also one of the reasons of their "burnout" last 2018 where they almost disbanded. I remember that kind of feeling really took a toll on Jimin's mental health. It was shown in their concert documentaries. Glad they overcome it.

About 2018.. At first I thought it was about being burnout and all. But in BV 3, Jimin had a drink with RM (The night with the fireworks) he talked about them having a hard time in early 2018 because they couldn't have concerts and see army. I was really confused at the moment, because I thought they were extremely worn out and that's why they were having a hard time. Now, with pandemic and listening to the boys talking about wanting to perform because it gives them purpose, I realized that performing on stage really is the main drive and support for their mental life, EVEN if physically draining. What am I trying to say....I guess I'm happy that "flying high/being up there" is no longer lonely nor terrifying for them.

i’ve always interpreted the beginning of shadow (“i wanna be a rap star” etc) as this simplistic but deep ambition almost child like and stubborn. and the fact that he uses english to say all these simple sentences also emphasizes this kinda mantra about ambition. sometimes yoongi’s use of english is deliberate and so smart in the way he places it on the song. can only thinking about how he uses english in ‘people’ and ‘blueberry eyes’ as an example of this

the psychology behind this song is astonishing. the references to isolation and the difference in personality is so well done. that shift in the song really put the cherry on top and how he put it “desire”. it’s the reality between his shadow and his on stage persona that becomes blurred and he was so spot on with explaining the meaning.

Thanks a lot for this reaction ! Now, I'm a bit sad when people take the lyrics of No More Dream literally. Just read the next lyrics : "I want a big house, big cars and big rings, But actually, I don't have any big dreams". In my opinion, the song is about how young people don't have actual dreams, they just want the things everyone want and tell them to want. I think Bangtan were mocking this materialism and conformism from the beggining. (just in case it isn't clear, I'm not angry and am not hating anyone, just hoping to share knowledge/opinion)

I'd just like to say that the part where he says "I wanna be a rockstar, I wanna be the top..." is a reference to their first song in which his verse began with "I want a big house, big cars and big rings" It's supposed to represent who he was in 2013 debuting with BTS a group from a small company and the rest of the song shows who he is as a person today, a member of BTS, one of the biggest groups in the world.

He is accepting his shadow inner self as well as the famous self and is at peace with himself in the last scene when he is among the crowd as opposed to earlier. You see the black clothed Suga (shadow) in the crowd looking up at the white clothed famous suga on top just before the last acceptance scenes.

Because Jason was already fully aware of Jung and his work, I find that he was prepared for what Shadow was expressing while he listened and watched. He was completely tapped in and his breakdown of the song and video was a masterclass. I’m curious as to how Jason is so familiar with Jung. It was nice to see so many of the reactors speak about how the song relates to them being musicians as well. Not just a breakdown of the music but the lyrics as well.

Honestly, this and Black Swan embodied the concept of MOTS. The other songs in the album (although still really, really good like my personal fave, Louder than Bombs and Ugh) did have some throw away lines but didn't really fully reach the full potential of the concept. And there were songs that also didn't fit the concept at all. Also: I miss Kendrick Lamar.

Okay the last guy I think his name was Jason was so on point w his analysis, suga always puts sm thought and dept behind everything he does, and if you listen to suga’s other works you can clearly see that he doesn’t sugarcoat it. He talks about his struggles as much as of his achievements but he doesn’t flex. He worked so fucking hard for everything he got and he still gets hate for people who don’t even have a name, he puts sm into his music and archived sm, their debut track has a line "I want a big house, big car and big rings" in one of his solo tracks he reused that line, "I have a big house, big car and big rings" he talks about how he achieved everything he wanted, but in the end he questions what comes next? He has everything he has, he is a star, a rockstar, he is rich, he has everything he wanted but why doesn’t he feel so happy on the top, that reflected here. I didn’t like how that one guy said he could have said it differently or he doesn’t like that part, it could be his personal taste but this line is so important for the track. Suga wanted to be fame, he wanted to be big, bc he doesn’t knew what’s all behind that, he didn’t knew about the shadow and misery it comes with it. Being and idol is so romanticised or being famous bc no one ever talks about the shadow of all. He never knew how bad it can gets, he was afraid of going higher he didn’t wanted to fly higher, in case he looses himself and everything changes the person he is, he was afraid of the shadow in himself. The 2nd time yoongi brings the line "I want to be a rockstar etc" it’s sm softer, nearly like a whisper, I think it’s bc he isn’t sure about it anymore. He is confused if he still wants that all, being at the top he questioned himself if he should continue, he didn’t know if he wanted to become bigger, he struggled with the imagine of himself and the struggles of the past and upcoming future. "Yeah I'm you, you are me, now do you know" as everyone could have thought that’s his shadow, the different persona he has, the shadow talks to him, tries to make him understand that they are one and suga can’t fight against him, there are times where his shadow will go away but also will come back, he tries to explain he can’t be afraid of his shadow bc that’s him, he is his own shadow but light. The track then ends with the sentiment that everyone feels this way and that this feeling is unavoidable, ultimately leaving a sense of acceptance. He has to accept that his shadow will never fade, and is a part of himself. I just wanted to thank Jason that he said "now I know why BTS is big" the simply looked at the lyricsm, depth behind it, the Meaning and understood how well done and deep this all is, thank you guys for supporting them❤️
